From WRS this morning.
https://www.worldradio.ch/news/bites...fter-lockdown/ The Swiss passport office is as busy as it’s ever been as many had delayed renewing their travel documents during the pandemic.
Most cantons say they have a much higher demand than ever before – the longest wait is Geneva, which is six weeks. But it’s common to have to wait for more than a month.
There’s a similar delay for ID cards.
The Geneva office says it seems many people didn’t think it was worthwhile renewing a passport during lockdown as they could not use it – so there’s now a catch up.
Authorities are recommending to allow at least two months before needing a passport to apply to for a new one. This will explain the delays for Permit renewals, etc.
My son just renewed his ID and passport (getting new ones that is, as they don't renew them anymore) in Lugano, and he had his new pp and id 5 and 7 days later. They came separately as they are not printed at the same place!
My boy just got his first ID and Passport. Biometrics done last Tuesday, ID arrived Friday, Passport arrived yesterday.
That being said, the earliest Biometrics appointment was a month wait! Absolutely unacceptable
(In comparison, another country is saying up to 3 years for the passport )
Canada: They said 'up-to 18 months for citizenship' before applying for the passport and 'up-to 18 months' for the passport.
That's a big caveat... how long for a passport at the Canadian embassy for someone with citizenship?
So the same as in Switzerland? 35 months for citizenship and a month for the passport?
No delays in getting passport and ID for my daughter in VD about 2-3 weeks ago. Online appointment was available for the same week but at odd hours, but any time was available the following week. Got the standard question if travelling in next 10 days but it arrived as usual within 2-3 business days. So experience was no delays at all. Maybe a Geneva issue.
Completed application last night, got confirmation this morning, booked appointment in Lausanne/VD for tomorrow morning, no delays at all !
My son got his appointment for the bio-metrics in just 5 days!
Similar experience with my son, same timeline. So in Vaud everything runs smoothly.
Mine is running out, so I requested an appointment yesterday, and got one for Friday this morning!
