I I actually live at the edge of Wulflingen. The hail was brief, but large where we are. I think I have a few new dents in my Venetian blinds and my big dahlia was hit, but not so much damage for us. Luckily, my husband was about to leave, and decided to stay till the worst was over.
I have never seen hail quite that large.
In Spain at the moment, no idea if I still have a roof, but I think yes. Did cut all trees years ago and now I should be fine.
Tennis ball size hail is normal in Switzerland, but in any place in Switzerland it happens every 30 years statistically. There must be upwinds of more than 200 km/h for a prolonged time to build them. May happen more in the future…

This has been the trend for many years now. I once skied in the Zuri Oberland. Those days are already gone. There was once a ski jump on Zurich’s Uetliberg!
To be sure when booking a ski holiday in advance, the main criteria is “get high”…

Meteo Susse forecasting more 30C days at the weekend, this continuing hot weather is getting tedious.
They also claim Swiss weather is more effected by the Atlantic than changes like El Nino in the Pacific.
Still under the aircon, but today it was only 33 at 9 in the morning. One more month and summer is gone in Spain too…
The peak lasts just a couple hours in the later afternoon, there’s often a light breeze, and the nights are cold again.
I fail to see a problem. Quite the contrary, this is proper summer weather.

I’d agree. Our place is keeping a pleasant internal temperature and it’s nice and cool for sleeping at night.
That wasn’t the case with the heat bubble last month where inside it was up to 36`C and stayed above 30 throughout the night.
I wouldn’t say the nights are cold but they’re certainly much cooler and sleeping is comfortable again.
I love not having to rush down at zero dark thirty to throw open all the windows only to have to shut them again at 10 past 10. Just leave the T&T windows tilted overnight. Still have breakie on the patio but need the robe.

Switzerland have decided to opt out of the EU Copernicus scheme citing budget restraints:
This scheme uses satellites to monitor the Earth to provide critical data on climate change, natural hazards and environmental monitoring.
All 27 EU states participate, as do several non-EU countries like Norway, Iceland and the UK.
Switzerland can still access the data for free:

Who knew Switzerland was such a poor country that they cannot afford this compared with the likes of Bulgaria and Slovakia?

The only thing that’s suboptimal here is that this may cause some research slots to get rationalized away as well. I don’t know how well the both ETH schools react to this.
To be blunt, it’s good that other countries don’t take such an abhorrent attitude to something that benefits all countries.
You may be stating that tongue in cheek but going on Switzerland’s history, it’s probably nearer to the truth than you Swiss would like to believe.
Personally, I think the decision is disgusting and shameful but then I was brought up in a different country so I don’t have that mindset.
