Switzerland and the silent resistance to Youtube home repair

Veering every so slightly OT…

Have you ever had trouble with getting Siemans/Bosch spare parts, either DIY or via an official repairman?

I ask because I was about to replace all my kitchen appliances with Siemans when the Schreiner doing the cabinets threw up his hands in horror, saying that Siemans/Bosch (i.e., their non-luxury lines) were known for problems getting replacement parts and lengthy repair times. As in, in this guy’s opinion, Siemans’ service issues were a deal-breaker.

Based on repairability in that price range, he suggested I look at Electrolux.

Any thoughts?

Luckily they ignore it.

If it gets too close to them when sleeping then they move on

They are both under 10kg so would not be able to do much damage as the devices seem to be made of a tough plastic and are quite heavy.

They start at around 120 CHF.

Ours was quite an advanced one when we bought it but now it would be considered quite basic so comparable to the cheaper Xiaomi ones on sale.
The spare parts are readily available and not costly too.

The Muttley Crews’ brief introduction to a Roomba resulted in years of remedial behavior therapy.

But then again, most of them were fruitbat nutcases to start with. :slightly_smiling_face:

DIY, no. Sometimes from abroad though. They have a new policy that all spare parts are available officially for at least fifteen years.

They are good for spares too.

We’ve never had an issue getting spare for any of our Siemens appliances all of which are 13 years old now.
I ordered a part for the fridge last week and it arrived within two days.

Organising repairs/maintenance visits has always been easy and painless as well and we’ve never had to wait more than a few days for a technician to come.

One dog generally doesn’t care, but will give it a little nip if the vacuum bumps into him (which triggers the sensor, and the robot scurries away).

Our older dog didn’t care in the slightest.

The puppy doesn’t trust it, and changes room when it comes in… but it’s only been 2 days or so…

The real “issue” is our child, who sits on the vacuum and rides it around (roborock something or other).

Honestly, I would have no idea how we would survive without our vacuums (yes plural). They run 2x per day, and with 2x dogs - they collect a lot of the fur. We have 3x roborocks and 1x xiaomi.

The xiaomi mops better, but needs “rescuing” more often. The roborocks seem to run regardless of what is left on the floor…

Importing worked OK then

I once saw a video of a cat doing that

I have now found a lot of them

Yes, was (relatively) trouble free.

I took the wrong border, ended up in Basel rather than Rheinfeld (serves me right for blindly following waze). They were anyhow open at night…

That said, the lady there tried to insist that I needed 2x rabies vaccines, not one. None of my dogs ever had 2x vaccines as a puppy that I can recall… I seem to recall the closes being in Italy after a year or so…

So I wasted 30 mins at the border while I found the zoll webpage (which she didn’t accept), and eventually she “made an exception” and let me through…

He’s settling in well, and I’ll update the other thread with pics in due course. Sunday he starts “school” (as despite being 7 months old, he’s had near zero training… so doesn’t accept a harness or leash… so we start slowly)…

Great news

This is what AI says; you probably already know this.
Dogs should receive their first rabies vaccination between 12 and 16 weeks of age, as they must be at least 12 weeks old. A booster shot is required one year after the initial vaccination, which could be six months, depending on the manufacturer.

Thanks
I had made a quick Google and only found more expensive ones.

Just an FYI, since the subject has come up… here is the vaccine recommendation from the SVK, the Swiss Association for Small Animal Medicine:

Now back to DIY-ing stuff.

Recently read a story about a robot vaccum on a alien spaceship. The human crew members put googly eyes on it, attached a knife and called it “stabby”

Funny you should mention this. As a kiddie, I had a robot ladybug about 30cm big. Its wings/carapace were red plastic. When activated, it lit up and trundled around the room until it hit something, then reoriented like a robot vacuum and continued bopping around the room. I loved it and named it Blue Ribbon…don’t ask me, I was only 5. We used it to play Murder Dollhouse.

I like that, I had something similar a walking robot with lights and sounds, it fell over a lot but if it hit something it would turn an go in a different direction.

bah. Our Schreiner assured us for Miele being ‘best in class’ on repair service and response, so we bought the appliances from him (of course Miele) . 26 months later, we have a problem, called him, and he said "i don’t work with them anymore, they have shitty service’… as expected
