We have an odd situation, yet, I can't believe that we would be the first to have this happen.
Our move has been repeatedly delayed, but now looks set that we will be in Geneva from 30 September. We expect to be in a monthly rental somewhere near the UN offices in Nations. We understand that finding a permanent home may take a month or longer, which takes us into November or even December.
We are wondering about schooling for that sort of period. Does anyone have experience with enrolling a child into elementary school temporarily? We are hoping to eventually wind up in Vaud or the areas of Geneva between Nyon and Nations, and understand that public schools require local residency, and we are hesitant in starting at a private school if we wind up moving or living in an area completely different than our current plan.
We know it's not best for a child to be pingponging from schools, but we also hope that she can start meeting other playmates. We are more than capable of homeschooling her; however she is a social child and having other children to interact with would certainly be good for her.

If your child goes to state school, the authorities decide which one (normally the closest to your home), when you move they decide again. Happens automatically, nothing for you to really do. They won’t let you not send her to school because you intend to move in a couple of months.
If you know where you want to be permanently, in terms of neighborhood, can you find temporary housing there? We did that and then limited our search to the area around the kids' school, to guarantee they wouldn't have to switch schools twice in a short period of time. We even checked with the cantonal office that if we move from address X to Z there would be no school move, prior to signing the documents.
