The infamous "Computer + Software" Shop in Basel

There was a similar computer shop in Zurich, I think Birmensdorferstrasse 484 or so - right before the Triemli Busstop.

They had all kinds of weird stuff in the Window.

I think I was even in there once, when I was new to Zurich. I always wondered what the point of such an office was. But maybe it was very cheap rent.

It closed either shortly before or during the pandemic and currently houses a driving school.

Doing a bit of digging, the contact person for the shop, Claudia Wenger, is also the IT support for the Muttenz Gemeinde so the shop is not their only source of income.

Read about their tax returns? I don’t think you can have access to that.

You could go in the shop and ask them how they make any money:

Öffnungszeiten: Dienstag 15:00 bis 15:10 (nur jeden zweiten Monat)

Excellent sleuthing… but I’m too scared to call her because she might have me whacked for asking too many questions.

A good one=) Or maybe I could send a registered letter=)
On a serious note, it sounded to me like maybe there was an article about an ongoing tax fraud investigation against this ghost shop or something like that.

Image of they just can't wait to whack somebody, anybody.

Not one that I know of… I assumed that the tax office has their tax returns anyways.
It’s funny everyone thinks of it, but yeah the famous Al Capone was caught because he failed to file his tax returns and was found guilty of tax evasion… :grinning:
Anyways, I think this woman has no idea we’re discussing her uhm…little shady shop…

As long as she relies on Netscape and ‘Ask Jeeves’ she’ll never find us here.

I lived in Kleinbasel for over 2 years and we used to pass this shop when we were out for a walk. The window used to have faded packets of printer paper on the shelves and I used to wonder what was going in on in there. That was back in 2015 - 2018.

I sometimes wonder about some of the shops along Hardstrasse in the Gellert, but I’ve heard the businesses are families who own the shops and the flats above, so they get a lot of rental income.

Sounds like a paraphrased “if the business works, don’t touch it” =)
