The onion oracle

According to my onions it is going to be a long and cold and wet and snowy winter like we havnt had in yonks.
Its one of those old wife’s tales with a kernal of truth and when local onions are small, rather tasteless and have a hard and thick peel then a hard winter is forecast.
So get the wellies and the woolies out.
What is your old wife’s tale that you know to be true?

Don’t know of any and haven’t heard that one before. Interesting.

WellI’ve heard that the YMO scientists believe the polar vortex will be particularly weak this winter. A strong vortex keeps the cold air in the north, a weak one lets the cold air south.

So chalk one up for the onions.

The onions never lie.

They do make me cry.

Last winter was not particularly cold, but really cloudy.

So, more rain?

Last year the onions told me that the winter was going to be mild and miost.
Which it was.
What are the Swiss onions saying?

Only cut them in rings, drop them in hot oil in the pan. I’m bad at making questions

Weeks ago the guy who trims our trees every year told us it would be a hard cold snowy winter. I think he asks his cat.

I’m surprised. I’m certain that cats know, but they certainly aren’t known for sharing information with their owners.

Perhaps he bribes them with catnip.

Well, my local onions - as in those in my garden - were a total bust. Tiny and tasteless.

Not sure that’s a sign of winter to come or my lack of onion growing skills.

If your Onion Oracle is correct, then I’ll welcome a real winter once again. Haven’t had one in yonks. Would be a nice change.

I’m relieved to hear that I am not the only failed onion grower. They are supposed to be the ideal companion plants but mine failed whoever they were close to and even on their own.
I’ll cope with Zug being the new Ticino temperature wise, if only it was also true about the fog. Cold but sunny, that would be nice.
