The story of how I ended up hating the Nespresso store...

I have to admit I have a Delizio machine from Migros, which also uses capsules which can actually be bought in Migros along with your other shopping - innovative or what??!!

Nespresso has just today sent me some free coffee to sample. Unfortunately they sent it to my old address which I left over a year ago, this meant that I had to pay CHF9.00 for the privilege of receiving the package. To add insult to injury I chucked my old Nespresso machine out when I moved house! I also hate Nespresso!

I wonder how much people spend in average for nespresso. I get most of the coffee at work, but at home I order 200 capsules every 3 months. Probably not good enough to receive free samples

Makes 100 chf every 3 months.

You've been here too long

I got called a self-important wanker just for SHOPPING in the stupid store. I can't wait to see what epithets are thrown my way after telling you that my husband and I between us drink 8, yes, you heard me, 8 of the little capsules each and every day.

When I approach the Nespresso store, a skinny but luxurious red carpet automatically rolls out of the doorway to greet me and a subtle, yet still recognizable, drum roll is played over the stereo system.

OK, bring it on.

To the OP:

You could do like many other Swiss have done to me, which is to cut off the salesperson from whom they are helping and proceed to tell them exactly what you need (go into detail and take your time) without a second glance towards the person you have just cut off from the salespersons. I have noticed the salespeople often seem happy to oblige their rudeness, whereas I am left standing dumbfounded and most likely leaving the store.

This exact situation happened to me 3 times alone last Friday afternoon while shopping on Bahnhofstrasse, and last night at a restaurant. *sigh*

Thats hell lot of money for coffee / month!!!

And people complains that the cost of life is expensive here.... Some should take a look at their budget on how much money to put on ''luxuries".

if coffee is doing this effect on you, you should drink more milk or tea (without "coffeein") ;-)

They really ought to give the machines away as the money is all in the capsules. Kind of like razors. I grind my beans and pull the lever on my espresso machine; I also use a straight razor .

My mama got this gadget and use any kind of coffee she buy. A lot cheaper!

You obviously haven't seen the specialist ginger root store in Oetwil

Coffee I can understand but a ginger shop!! that is only open twice a week!

hmmm "el cheap-o"?

I guess it depends on your perspective. My husband inhales the stuff, and so a nespresso machine actually saves money, IMHO. Rather than spend CHF 3 for an espresso, you spend 50-60 rappen on an espresso. So to me, it actually saves money. My husband bought an inexpensive machine for his office too. Given the amount of coffee he drinks in a day, 50-60 rappen for each is a bargain.

I also have this thing called an outpresso. It's a hand held device that opens the capsule and spits out the coffee, allowing you to toss out the capsule with the rest of the aluminum recycling.

In the US I had a saeco vienna deluxe semi automatic. It was great, but had too many o-rings that went bad, made a horrible mess and the truth is, the coffee from nespresso is consistently better. IMHO, again.I suppose I just wasn't good at fiddling with the semi automatic whenever I bought a different coffee. And I bought good coffee. We also bought both of our nespresso machines for less than the cost of the saeco.

Well, I buy coffee beans from Schwarzenbach - about Sfr10 for 1/2Kg of beans. I haven't figured that out in terms of cups of espresso but I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than buying capsules (even if they do look very pretty... )

Besides, if they can afford George Clooney for their advertising as well as their chain of little 'coffee-boutiques', they must be making some pretty serious money from those overpriced lumps of coffee-filled aluminium...

I had done the math and it.. works out about the same *for me*, in terms of cost. I compared the cost of a bag of above average coffee beans (500g), took the number of coffees I make from that, and then multiplied it by the cost of the capsules. It was within spitting distance.

*BUT* there are so many other factors to weigh in on that I stuck with the beans at home... (Cheesy alert) because I like to grind it harrddddd in the kitchen.

The office has a fancy machine that uses the Nespresso capsules, it is very good.

Hey Spouse. Just mention casually in the thread that you don't actually recycle those 8 capsules a day and I'm sure we'd hear the reassuring pop of their brains exploding from here in fashionable nespresso guzzling Lausanne.

I like the current Bodum adverts for their "manual" coffee makers:

There are a few different options to the nespresso capsules and I imagine more will come out as time passes.

I have a friend who absolutely adores his coffee and is currently enamored with the Nespresso machine after his introduction during his latest visit to our place. He's eager to try the nextpod capsule with freshly ground boutique coffees back home in Australia. And if they pass his taste test I'll be having him airfreight me some

I'm a coffee addict. At one point I was consuming 3 double espresso's before 9am... Its only through persistence (and a week long headache ) that I've managed to drop my caffeine consumption to 1 or 2 coffees per week. For this reason the Nespresso machine is fantastic. Minimal cleaning means that I cant tell myself that another coffee (or 3) is necessary before I pull the machine appart to clean it (every day)

Can I come and watch?

You forgot to buy the filters... , so I guess you got yourself a turkish coffee..

And then still: you saved money but that filter coffee just sucks!

I got myself a jura, and buy beans. It's bigger then the nespresso, uses more cleaning etc and is more expensive (the machine, not the beans), but the coffee is superb.
