Whelp, over a week of intense diat…
aaaaaand.
drumroll
Exact same weight as before, not a gram less.
What have I done?
Cut back intake to under a kilo a day, mainly avoided carbs, no processed foods, watched the calories, balanced food, plenty of salads, cut down bread, (had to feed the rest to the animals.)
A gulp of beer and not every day, drank mostly water and tea.
No chips, flips or any other snack except for fruit and celery sticks.
Spent a lot of time on the bicycle, exercised, swam and walked.
Went hungry enough to smell the food on other people.
So unlike the first time I tried this where I lost a lot of weight, 80kgs, why is this not wotking now?

It’s only been a week, you need to give it more time.

Have a closer look at what you’re eating because from what I can remember there was a fair bit of processed food in there.

I’m having a hard time getting my head around your system of using the weight of food consumed as a way of quantifying what you eat.

Because a week is far too short a time. I thought when you started that the whole idea of weighing yourself every day and expecting it to be meaningful was a bit odd, daily fluctuations of ± a kilo or two, due to water retention/excretion and when you last took a dump are quite normal for most people, and I imagine the larger you are the larger those fluctuations might be.

Yes, I assumed that this must be the latest fad diet, and that the use of the word “diat” must have some meaning as the name thereof, but I couldn’t find anything when I just did a quick look.

It does sound odd, but then they usually do.

@Slammer, couple of thoughts. First, the older you get, the harder it is to shift those pounds. Second, fat doesn’t weigh much compared to its bulk–that’s why I prefer to use my clothes as an indicator. The difference between my jeans being just snug or downright tight can mean only a kilo gained. Why don’t you pick a day and weigh yourself every week on that day, or every 2 weeks? Also, if you must have processed meats, can you swap out the sausage for a lower-fat poultry alternative? I also don’t understand your system of determining intake in grams, but if it works for you, …

Could be that the increased physical activity has signalled to your body to conserve energy/reserves.

Its not an increase, but a bit of a change from strength to cardio, I tend to follow the 1/3 rule whereby your fitness regime is mede up of a third going heavy but less reps, a third lighter and more reps and the other third cardio.

i keep on insisting that it is not the same eating 500g of fat than 500g of carbohidrates or 500g of protein, and relying purely on ‘weight’ of what you eat, can be very unbalanced!

you want to lose weight with 100% guarantee? Go 100% ketonic (or paleo, however you want to call it). And eat as much as you want.
Yet, strict - absolutely no carbs. No bread, no pasta, no rice, no fruit. With no grandchildren excuses.
Pig out on cheese, meat, fish, eggs and greens. Do not cheat. If you don’t cheat, after 48-72 h you will feel sick like a dog - for about 1 h – that’s your metabolism moving for glucose to fat burning.

Then, You will melt. physically. Between 2 to 4 kg per week.
Not tiptop for cholesterol or liver, but effectivity is guaranteed.

Do I recommend it? NO. Is it sustainable? NO
But at least it will be effective

I was going to suggest keto–our handyman in FL (a big muscular guy 100+kg) lost 30 pounds on it, and he said it was so easy to stick to it. He kept it up even after he lost all that weight. I used to cook for him sometimes, and I could go wild on the cream and bacon!
P.S.: Stevia is keto, so I used to make him panna cotta.

It’s difficult to know whether you’ve put on muscle and lost fat, or just lost fat weighing yourself so frequently, and being on a diet and undertaking resistance training.

As an example, I purposefully weighed myself this morning when I woke up and the scales said 82.0Kg.

I weighted myself at lunchtime and I weighed 79.0Kg.

Do I win the prize?

Of course not - I went for a bit of a cycle ride this morning in the hills and so that weight loss is a bit from dehydration and a bit from empty glycogen stores (thanks @Roxi for including that in this thread).

It will be back at 82Kg in the next day or two even if my watch data said I burnt 3400 calories - that makes negligible difference.

What @bossybaby said makes the most sense - especially if you are doing any sort of resistance training and want to know whether your weight change is fat loss (or gain).

Measure your waist or try on a pair of jeans that did or didn’t fit.
I’ve got a pair of shorts which were too tight around the waist a couple of weeks ago but are a better fit now.

Also, she said everything slows down as you get older and it’s harder to shift any weight you’ve gained.

Now, where is that packet of crisps…

This! Pants and shirts can wear differently in spite of the same weight. This is not about fashion, it’s only a simple way to see how those kilos are distributed in the body: water, fat, muscle.

Additional benefits: sleeping better, no random pains in the back or joints, etc.

OK, I know, it is because of the pills for my diabetes that I don’t gain weight. I do almost nothing except riding my bike to the place of the next excess Spanish food. And then it has a 1000W motor, so I am sorry for those German athletes that come to Spain to train and I overtake them uphill.

But really, only those partly illegal motors for bicycles made me ride one again. And I do pedal even it would work without it (lost the chain in one of the last rides and could continue as the motor is in the back wheel). Without such a thing I would ride around with my car (with driver) enjoying the aircon and doing (almost) nothing!

Anyhow, I think we give too much thought to our weight. It is just gravitation, so what?

Seems like you are trying to convince yourself in all of this rather than trying to convince others.

Made me smile, but I don’t understand. I’m done convincing, others or myself. Just live the moment, karma is a bitch!

Shit, I need goofies @Your_Full_Name help: live or life?

Are you suggesting that people who are too unfit to ride a bicycle and who suffer from self-inflicted type-II diabetes and other ailments are having a great life and the rest are just living for the sake of it?

What a bizarre way of looking at things.

Seriously, I don’t make any sacrifices in not having Type II diabetes. It’s really not a life-goal to get it.

It’s probably not the best thread to defend your lifestyle.

That is perverse, not only bizarre. I’m not a brain doctor to be able following that kind of sick thoughts. Is that just trolling or are you for real?

So what did you mean by “Live or life”?

English orthography, nothing more. Goofy helps me there, I never can tell which one to use, live or life… Sorry.

One lives a life.

Life is a noun, live is a verb.
