Ticino Electrician

Depends on what all has to be done, up to then we have no clue what is reasonable. Perhaps they need to cave in over 100 meters of pipe in concrete and stone wall and break open ceilings and floor and replace all material and your distribution cabinet completely.

PS: There are many ways to write Swiss Francs like Fr., CHf, and SFr. but SF is not among them

To do what, exactly?

And why do you want to redo the wiring?

Tom

Under some circumstances, an earth leakage circuit breaker is ineffective (or cannot be employed) if there are multiple ground/neutral connections.

Sounds a lot to me, but I suppose it depends on the extent of the work needed, the size of the house, and if they also have to replace the main cable from the road to the house.

My son's friend is training to be an electrician at the school in Bellinzona, if you can attach the quote i can ask him to look at it to see if its fair or not.

Having renovated a 3 bedroom house from aufputz to unterputz myself, I can say that this takes roughly 2 hours/branch/room, or about 5 hours per room just to bore the holes for the outlets, cut the channels and plaster everything in.

That's just the labour time, no materials, also no holes/channels joining floors, no lamp outlets in the ceilings, no outlets/switches/wire installed or connected.

And when you're done the rooms all need final skim and paint.

It's a lot of money but that doesn't automatically mean it's expensive, this completely depends on what needs to be done. Without even a hint of a description it's impossible to guess let alone tell.

You could ask for offers for the project on an aggregator site (e.g. renovero.ch, ofri.ch, expertado.ch). But be careful, in too many cases low price means poor job quality. And if your project description is in English you i) limit the potential offers and ii) present yourself as potentially exploitable.

Am I right to think that the 5 hours include one outlet next to the door plus one in the ceiling, roughly in its center, for the light?

If so, merely an additional outlet in one of the far corners would at least double the length of channel that needs to be laid (in part subject to the path you take), and consequentially double the worktime per room.

I'm not saying this is the case here. It's just an example for how the cost can reasonably vary by an awful lot.

It was just a rough figure.

I ripped down the ceilings in each room, so the addition of lamp boxes in the ceiling was inconsequential (new lath, drywall and mud, otoh, was a different story).

I went a bit overboard with the outlets: One in each corner, and one either side of each door/window, and one in the middle of any wall longer than 5m.

But you're right, it's very much a "how long is a piece of string question".

If the OP is putting everything unterputz, installing a new breaker panel, pulling all new wiring, AND installing Ethernet/media cabling then 30K might not be that far off the mark.

Best to get a few offers.
