for the first time i am planning to sky for one day in Flumserberg and of course i want to use train. I was thinking to wear all the ski clothing for the trip on the train, but what about boots?
Do you wear them as well (don't you ruin them walking on asphalt?)? Do you take sneakers to place in the backpack for later?
Any advice? Maybe buying some extra light shows shoes for the exchange?
Also i think i will carry my skis and poles by hand to not have to carry the bag too, any better ideas? In the train stations nowadays i see a lot of people carrying skis and boots
Train station lockers: I use to leave the shoes, something to eat and a couple beers for the train back home. I also use lockers for mtb days, I leave there the bike bag and dry clothes.
Not sure about the prices for Flumsemberg, but lockers can be as low as 5 CHF for 24H.
I’ve seen people wearing everything, except the helmets. Skis and poles together can be left in the vestibule, but if they are any good take a cable lock. I wouldn’t take a ski bag.
As for your question: take the ski boots in a bag for the train, and either use one of the lockers at Tannenboden (right where the gondola ends), or simply put your shoes in the bag and leave it outside on a ski rack; nobody will take it.
I would not want to wear cross country or alpine ski gear on a train - even if using layers. A single soft carry on bag should be able to hold the ski pants, ski jacket, gloves, helmet, googles, boots, water, etc. Depending on your ski bag options, you could bind skis and poles into a nice, tight, easy carry package. For train comfort, you could wear an upper body base layer and sweater with some training pants over your leg base layer and snow capable comfort shoes.
Don't know the answer, but would ski boots be allowed to be worn on trains? They would cause a lot of damage to floors. Always carry boots separately- more than anything else, after a day's skiing- taking them off will be bliss.
Put your shoes into the bag and leave it somewhere when you ski (either on a ski rack, or on top of the lockers). No-one ever steals an old pair of shoes in CH...
I've seen so many people in ski boots in public transport, also in trains, that I even thought first that the question was a joke. Of course you may wear ski boots in trains. Also cross country ski boots (the lady in the full cross country ski gear was sitting in front of me in the train last week).
Thanks- they are certainly never allowed in buildings, châlets, Hôtels, etc- so thought the question was not that daft! Only restaurants that will accept them are those on the slopes, generally.
Plenty of people walking to/from the station in Luzern in full ski gear on Sundays. I have even seen someone cycling to the station in ski boots, carrying his skis on one shoulder. Not sure the police would think too kindly of that.
I used to use the lockers behind the main ticket office at Tannenboden. If you are looking at the Ticket office, it is on the left side of the building. Sometimes I would forget to bring coins and I would just leave my stuff on top of the lockers and they are fine. And nobody else seems to use the lockers except me... However I have not used them since they put in the new lifts a couple of years ago, so not sure if they are still there.
