Toddler with very itchy skin

Bleach baths sound like they'd be pretty painful if the skin is open, though open skin would also increase the likelihood of secondary bacterial infection.

We did regularly disinfect the stuff that went into the bath (anti-slip mats, bath toys) in an effort to reduce these opportunistic infections.

Long shot - Have you started applying sun block recently?

UK TV show Watchdog last night had a section about some nasty skin reactions to Piz Buin.

Hey ctoop, your post is very timely. My eczema has flared up over the last few weeks.

I was also given Linola Fett and I agree, it does not work.

I was then given Nutraplus and I use that more as a hand cream when I am out because restaurant soaps can be harsh.

However, last week it came to the point I couldn't sleep because I was itchy and started looking up herbal remedies. I kid you not, a little turmeric powder mixed with olive oil worked a treat. It has anti-inflammatory agents and I stopped itching and the oil soothed my skin. The only problem with this is that it stains like crazy! I am still on the look out for turmeric cream....

However, I have also found that 99% Aloe Vera Jelly (that I bought Muller Reformhaus Vital Shop) has been working wonders. I started using this yesterday and with regular applications and with a little bit of pure coconut oil also rubbed in I have not itched all day and finally got a decent sleep last night.

I agree you should see a doctor but at least here are some ideas to help for the time being.

Funny you should mention that, the girl in the health shop asked me what sun cream I used when she saw my eczema (bring fair haired and all that). She advised I that use something more natural than Ambre Solei and gave me some freebi sachets of Sun Vital. Nearly cried when she said a bottle costs around 30CHF. Think I'll stay indoors this summer

Fess up. You added these 2 yourself to get out of the cleaning, didn't you...

A product I absolutely swear by is called Homéoplasmine. Available over the counter in France (I haven't looked here) it's like vaseline in a tube but with homeopathic ingredients. Works a treat and isn't expensive.

Cutting fingernails (keeping them as short as possible) will limit the damage a child can do to him/herself.

You have my sympathies (my dd had terribly reactive skin, but the specialist said it was most likely her adjusting to her new school, so psychological origin).

Good luck, it is distressing for a parent to witness ...

Our son had terrible Milchschorf as an infant. Bathing in a mild baking soda bath helped with the itching, as did applying Almond oil after the bath. It eventually went away, but it really was a trying time for us as new parents, as well as for him as a new him.

Baboon, you just opened a 2013 thread.. and you are no Noob

Are you having a wee tipple or two with your lunch? Or have you got an itch?

A spammer revived the thread...

So... it's vaseline?

Yep WITH homeopathic ingredients. Does that phase you?

Thanks JagWaugh, should've known..

My daughter had a bad rash under her lip/chin which was looking quite raw for a few weeks and refused to go away. When I forgot to moisturize it with the emollient based cream one morning on the way to school, found Aldi hand cream in the car and used it.

The rash cleared up in a couple of days.

I remember helping my Ex prepare for her Staatsexam by reading her cards which listed symptoms and she had to answer with the name of the condition and the treatment. iirc about 70% of the treatments were evenly split between "Hydrocortison cream" and "Barrier cream".

I just had a look at the ingredients and it's the usual collection, but it has glycerine in it.

Lacura

Intensive hand cream with Glycerine

long lasting relief for very dry skin

Lunch? Scarcely had breakfast.

Yes, was in the new posts and was not sufficiently awake to check the post dates

Try to moisten a kid's skin using near 500 ml of a body milk a week. It seems to be a lot but we have the same problem with our 2-y.o. daughter and when we moisten her skin a lot it helps.
