Travel to the UK with my Filipina wife - Visa / No Visa?

Hi all,

I am a UK citizen, British passport, living and working here on a B permit.

I plan to visit the UK for a vacation later this summer, by car, for a short vacation with my Filipina wife, who I got married to here last year.

She also has a B permit and a Philippines passport.

Last year I checked on the UK.GOV website where I discovered that I could travel with my wife to the UK for a short visit without any visa.

I have checked again this morning and it seems the rules have changed and now she should apply for a standard visitor visa.

I spoke to someone from UK.GOV on the phone this morning and that is what I was told. But they also admitted to me that it is very much a changing and confusing situation and actually suggested I called UK border control on a phone number, which I tried but no one answers.

The informed me my wife should apply for a standard visitor visa via:

I have already started the application process on behalf of my wife - it is very, very detailed and requires her to provide biometrics at an agent office here (which she also did for her B permit here).

Can anyone confirm this to be correct or not or share their similar experience.

I don’t know. What I suggest you do is ask the airline you willbe flying with. They will be the ones deciding to board you or not. They also have access to the latest information.

I put your info into the gov.uk “do I need a visa” check and yes, seems you do need a visa. Either a standard one or she might qualify for a family permit.

I suspect that when you looked last year some of the changes from Brexit might not have kicked in yet and now they have. Better to get a visa she may not need than not get one that she does.
