Do they give protection bags? Anybody with good/bad experiences?
How is it with Swiss?
I know that Turkish Airlines give very good protection bags but no experience so far with these two companies...
Does it change if one travels with business?
I have found that BA delivers pushchairs/strollers bigger than 117x38x38cm with check-in baggage.
We have some experience with Swiss.
If you tell them during check-in you have a pram which needs to be put in the hold, they'll print off all the routing tickets and give you a huge orange bag/tarpaulin (and lend you scissors / tape if you ask).
You can then go over to "Sperrgut", pack the pram up and hand it over. It's a relatively painless process. You can even get an airport pram to take with you to the gate.
EDIT: This was all done when flying business, ymmv with economy but I would guess the procedure would be pretty much the same.
We flew a bit last year with a couple of airlines, Swiss, EasyJet and maybe Austrian. We never got a bag from the airline. The push chair went through to the terminal with us and when you get to the aircraft gate you gave it in at the door and they put a label on it and loaded it on board as the last bits of luggage.
It worked well. The push chair came through the other end on the belt with luggage no issue.
The car seat we checked in. Again no bag. Just put on the belt and off it goes until you collect it the other end.
NB: We got a very good condition second hand/cheap travel push chair to fly with. So is light weight and easily folded and transported. Plus if anything was to happen to it, our daily use one at home isnt affected
Depends on the size of the pushchair. If too big, they will insist that you check it in. Swiss will give you an orange bag (just ask at check in), also in economy class. You get it back at the luggage belt, just like any checked luggage.
If the pushchair is smaller, you can of course push it all the way to the gate and leave it on the side as you board, and when you arrive at the other side, they will return it to you as you exit the plane.
We have a bugaboo stroller and have never gotten the big bag, but are usually able to check it at the gate. (Swiss, Lufthansa, EasyJet). It can get a bit dusty on the plane but we've always gotten it back at the next gate (no need to go to baggage claim which is nice as we have it for layovers) just fine.
