We hiked all the way up starting from Uetlibergstrasse (bus 13 & 17). It took us about an hour getting up. It's a beautiful hike up and rather steep. There is a section with metal grills underfoot as boardwalks for safety too. I recommend this route if you are fit. p.s. I didn't have proper hiking shoes, but only walking shoes from Sketchers, and I survived. But would definitely recommend hiking shoes. Great views from a few scenic spots.
I think you're meant to wear them on your feet Tom rather than carrying them up. I see where you're going wrong.
Why run the Uetliberg's well worn paths when there are so many other (better) trails up behind your place anyway?
I do all of them!
The best part of the Uetliberg run is from Sihlbrugg to Felsenegg anyway which is my neck of the woods.
Not sure about that. The path along the ridge can get very muddy (in my experience) - and is pretty narrow and littered with tree roots. Not one of my favourites.
Etzel to Sihlbrugg is really nice though.
Rapperswil to Zurich along the Pfannenstiel is great - with loads of options depending on where you want to finish.
