I just bought a 1978 Honda CB250T, in great shape but there are no directionals/blinkers on it, front or rear. The previous owner said it never had any, and a Honda Cycle shop told me that they are not obligatory for this model. Can I trust them? Should I have some installed? Thanks for the help.
Yes, a lot of older bikes don't have indicators/blinkers here.

Completely up to you. If you are a confident and skilled rider, settle for hand signals. If not, there are some very nice retro look indicator lights that can be bought, and fitting them is an easy process.
I've got a couple of vintage bikes, and have chosen not to mess with the aesthetics of their original specs - never had any issues with hand signals only.
Depends on the canton, it only became obligatory on a federal level for bikes first registered after 2012.
I have a '81, '85, '92, '05 without.

Just like a bicycle, you don't use any signals and can now ride on the footpath...
is 1978 'vintage' now? neither of my bikes have turn signals - but they're a lot older than that.
If retrofitting signals/lights, consider going for LED's or dampeners if using filament bulbs. Vibrations can chew through bulbs that are attached directly to the frame, a sore point for some kit cars, the Ariel Atom (in the past), etc...

Fortunately never had to use hand signals - I still think 99% of car drivers' reaction to the turning right signal would be wtf is he waving at...
Thanks to all for the input. I used "vintage" because it has a "moto d'epoca" designation and didn't know what else to write. Before I tear into the wiring - about which I know nothing - could someone say if the bike has the wiring already from the factory, even if it did not have the indicators? I guess I'll find that out soon enough if I start to install some blinkers. Thanks again,
