Twint payment by mistake

I though they said it was quite significant, i.e. not peanuts.

Interesting reading comments about how people use it, not really given much thought to it before. I use it a lot, nearly always on the receiving side, for my apartment rentals, most often for the tourist tax which I collect on departure, but sometimes for much larger amounts (i.e. up to some thousands).

In most cases the sender will already have been in touch via phone/SMS/Whatsapp, so the number has already been confirmed. If not then I will sometimes send a payment request which of course ensures they get the right number. I think if I were making significant payments to a ‘new’ recipient I would ask them to do this just to be sure,

You’re right! I read it as “not” really significant. Oops

Many small clubs just use a private telephone number when offering Twint as payment to buy their bratwursts, etc. I can imagine dialing the wrong number happens quite often.

They should use a set of QR codes.
It’s free to set up and can be done on the TWINT website.

Absolutely no need to be keying in telephone numbers.

What a good idea, I thought, so off I trot to find out how.

And no, you cannot. Only business users who would in any case be sending
a bill can include a QR code to allow Twint Payment. As an individual there is no facility to do so either via the app or the website.

Clubs definitely can -at events - such as at a bratwurst stand.
There’s even an image of someone cooking a bratwurst on the relevant Twint page!

Anyway, I would have thought that your Chalet business was a business?

True, but nothing keeps you from registering as trader. Mind, those transfers cost 1.3% commission.

Avoiding cash is definitely worth that, but whether that also applies in order to increase security may be a different matter.

That’s true too. They don’t care. They just want the commission!

Yes, I realised after posting that you were referring to the clubs previously mentioned, was going to edit… I had not realised though that they were referring to that sort of club, was thinking more about nightclubs, which are clearly businesses.

As for me, no. Only if I were to cross the VAT threshold would anything I do need to be treated differently, all my chalet income and business expenses are just declared on my tax return. There is, or at least was the last time we checked with an accountant, absolutely no benefit in forming a company to run it.

The Twint business customer model might be possible, so I’m looking to see if there’s anything of benefit.

Ah, right, I was looking for the catch, and there it is, thanks.

It’s very rare that anyone pays cash for the rental, so in general it’s just the tourist tax. I accrue a few hundreds, occasionally a couple of grand, of cash through the season and I’m happy enough to keep that much sitting around. Never actually done a cash deposit at the bank. Most Swiss people already prefer to use Twint 'cos it’s simpler, and as mentioned I can send them a request if they haven’t already got my number,
