Two yellow wires and a pink one, help :)

Hello forum,

I was installing a lamp in my new apartment, there were two yellow wires and a pink one. I connected the two yellow to the lamp, left the pink inside the plastic case and it worked. However the socket in the room now doesn't work. I suppose doing that left the circuit to the socket open? What can I do to solve the problem.

How were they connected before you connected your new lamp?

You split the neutral !! And if you live in a flat with TN-C wiring you created a potential deadly fault!

Get some Wago clamps, with three holes (Series 221 or 222) or similiar.

In one clamp you connect the pink and one side of the lamp, in the other clamp the two yellow and the other side of the lamp.

This. If you don't know what to do and have to ask, then don't do it. It's dangerous stuff.

The pink was covered in plastic and the two yellows also they were covered in plastic with two little separate holes.

If I connect to the lamp to the pink pink and a yellow it doesn't work.

I do all this business with the main switches off. Thank you all for the concern!

It works with the two holes clamp but I have a feeling that the three holes are probably safer, will get them, had no idea they existed. Thank you!

Nah. He's a good lad. I'm glad to have him as son in law. Now I just need a lawyer, a plumber, a builder and an accountant.

I had just two wires coming out the hole, yellow and brown. When connected to the lamp the fuse was tripping so I called an electrician and he magically made a third blue wire. Obviously it must have been there deep out of sight... so telling this anecdote as you might have more wires than you think. Do you have more than one switch for the lamp? In multi-switch installations the colors are usually weird (normally you'd expect yellow for shield, blue and brown)

Weird colours is my experience too. An electrical screwdriver that lights up when touching the live wire is a great tool. Switch off at the fuse box as well as the switch. Don't tell the insurance if you have done any of your own wiring - I am not sure of the legal situation

Connect the two yellows together, and the pink to the other side of the lamp.

No. Just the two. The lawyer, a plumber, a builder and an accountant can be just one person.

The teenage years were fine.
