UK lights! will they be compatible in Switzerland ?

Fixed that for you.

"Hi All,

We are soon moving to Switzerland from UK, I was wondering if I can take my lovely ceiling lights from here, will they be compatible with Swiss voltage ? has any one tried to use UK compatible lights in Switzerland, and do they work fine ?"

The lights will work perfectly, However you should consider buying adapters to change the bayonet type bulbs to Edison (screw type) bulbs.. You can purchase this online or from any electrical shop in London.

For the Large Bayonet type you will need BC/B22 to E22

Small Bayonet type you will need B15 to E14.

Price is about a Pound each..

You will not find bayonet type bulbs in Switzerland.

You can also change the actual bayonet fitting to the screw type but this is a bit of work.

All of my lights were bought in the UK and I ended up using the converters as I always had to stock up on bulbs anytime I traveled to the UK.

If your bayonet type is different from the most used type go online and you will find at least 50 different type of converters.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, this is useful.

This might seem like a silly question but if I have a UK ceiling light fitting, would it be compatible in a Swiss home? I don't want to blow the electrics

Yes it is, however you may struggle to find bulbs if it's the bayonet type. Secondly if it's metal make sure the earth is connected correctly (same as UK)

Read the other replies on this thread, now that I've merged it, and all your questions should be answered.

I'm pretty sure you used to be able to buy bayonet fitting light bulbs over the border in France.
