Vaud was less than 5 days from taking appoinment in biometricx place to receiving new passport & new ID card (sent seperately)
done it 3 times online in the last few years. no problem and even during corona, the delays were not too bad. i wouldn't go through the hassle of doing it in person (i'm not sure if that's even an option any more).
I've done it online (6 times now) for all the family and never had a problem. Even if you use a service you still have to give all the info the passport office require, so you may as well go direct and save the money. Approximate turn round time was just over 2 weeks, and that was when people in England were waiting 3 months!!! I think our passports were sent back by DHL.
I believe you can also apply for your passport 9 months before the old one expires and they add the extra time, so technically could be valid 10 years and 9 months.
Long gone are the days when I'd go to Geneva and have tea with the Consul while my new passport was being issued!! Such is progress!!!
That is no longer an option and since we now need six months validity left on the passport for travel to a lot of places passports will only really have nine and a half years these days.
Got 6 months left on mine starting from next month. Hope the renewal process will be done before June.
The EU won’t accept a passport having more than 10 year validity. They used to accept British passports having more than 10 year validity, but that was a different era. As CH is in Schengen they likely apply the same rule, although I don’t know this as a fact.
I submitted my application and paid on 25th March, returned my passport by registered mail the following day but still not had the email informing me it's there yet. There was a bit about passports in the online Daily Mail a couple of days ago, seems they're inundated with people who need a new passport for holiday and there's no rhyme or reason to the order in which they're dealing with stuff. Passport office staff are complaining they're all in the offices working but the management are still WFH and there's no real guidance (typical of the UK civil service )
No point ringing up as I've been told they don't start looking into it until the 10 week mark.
Amongst the comments were UK ex-pats in countries like Australia who'd sent passports back first week in January and still hadn't had an email. OH is going to London in June to see his sister, plan was I'd go to Scotland again, he'd come up by train and we'd travel back a few days later - guess I'll be staying here!
That doesn’t sound good. My digital photo code is only valid for a month so would run out before the end of this month if they haven’t started processing it yet.
Some posters on the DM said they'd had to start the process again. I'm starting to wish I'd gone to Glasgow now
My mum renewed hers in November, from the UK and it took about 3 or 4 weeks - and that was before covid restrictions were properly lifted. Everyone who wants to travel who has not renewed their passport in the last 2 years is now doing so, going to be crazy wait times even in the UK on the normal service.
If you need to travel, get an emergency passport from the embassy.

I assume all digital photos have an expiry date on them so that would cause even more problems.
They do, my friend had to go to the embassy to get one last week because they insisted they had to interview her.

No, there was another piece on the UK pages specifically about people trying to get passports renewed in Britain a few days ago.
I think people just about everywhere are having challenges getting documents renewed.
Just had an email and text to say my old passport was received, it was logged at 2.47pm this afternoon. Be interesting to see how long it takes for the new one.
