Has anyone recently flown from the UK to Basel? We are due to fly with easyJet on the 31st from Glasgow. On Easyjet's Covid travel hub it only treats Basel as a French airport, which is correct according to the euroairport website:
Easyjet's travel advisory has zero awareness about the "except for passengers with Swiss citizenship or a residency permit for Switzerland" part. It thinks Basel airport is in France and only the French rules apply i.e. we would not be allowed entry. I have tweeted Easyjet, but do not expect much back.
Obviously our concern is we are denied boarding. We have Swiss residency and will have a PCR test result within 72 hours of boarding. We are UK nationals.
If you have recently flown with Easyjet to Basel, were they aware that the Swiss rules apply if you have Swiss residency?
it's complicated. even if you get an answer, who knows how it will be enforced when you arrive there? if you get an answer from someone who did the same, who knows if you get the same treatment?
You're best advice will be found via the destination airport, which can be relayed to the airline. If you can get this in writing via an email, all the better if only to put your mind at rest.
I have contacted the company who supply the travel hub widget on the easyjet website and I also have a tweet from euroairport saying the Swiss rules apply if you’re a Swiss resident.
It worked out fine in the end. I contacted the company who built easyJet’s travel tool and they contacted easyjet on my behalf. An easyjet duty manager then contacted me and added a note to the booking. Easyjet have now updated their travel tool to add a paragraph about Swiss citizens and residents being subject to Swiss regulations when entering via Basel.
But if you don’t have Swiss residency or citizenship you have to pass the French rules for entry at Basel, irrespective of which country you are trying to enter.
The french officials are standing in front of the passport stations. Once they see your B or C permit then you’re ok to go through to the Swiss passport station.
