I have been calling several hotlines trying to simply change my direct debit details for voluntary national insurance contributions. I changed UK banks and it’s awful trying to get through to someone - was hoping someone here knew?
I have been trying to call the Future Pension Centre on 0800 731 0175 but they send me to call HMRC 0300 200 3500 and I’ve waited over 1h multiple times with no one picking up.
I’ve done searches on the Gov UK website- such as on the link below, but nothing about simply changing the direct debit details?
how did you set it up to begin with? hmrc sent me regular letters. i seem to remember there was payment information on it maybe with including DD instructions.
it was several years ago but i think i did this via post.
The last postal communication i received was in Feb about the changes to the rates of class 2 NI contributions.
it says "if you have a change to your bank call us- at the same number above 030002003505 - I've also tried calling the number for those outside the UK +441912037010 and on hold for 1h+ with no one picking up.
There has got to be a better way to do this. Or, I could write a letter but seems seriously backwards I can't just call or edit online somewhere.
The number for those outside the UK (0191 2037010) is the number you need to call I think. The last few times I called I managed to get through within the first ten minutes and they're pretty good at sorting things out quickly over the phone (obv my experience only).
Might be worth persisting with calling this number, maybe trying early in the day?
I've phoned three or four times this year at 10:00 CET, and never had a problem getting connected within about ten minutes. I did try in the afternoon once and gave up waiting.
This number has been given above. I called them a month a go and had no issue getting through. That said, the service is a bit special depending who you speak to, it doesnt always go smoothly or get resolved.
oh yes. I spoke to one woman with a thick Bradford accent (or there abouts) and a tendency to mumble. It got sorted out in the end but it took thirty minutes when it should have taken about five.
