UK Winter Fuel Payment to Switzerland

Nope, it’s going to happen. They won the vote yesterday in Parliament.

They’re justifying it by saying pensions will go up by about £440 a year next April. Meanwhile I read Rachel Reeves and others claim mega wonga in winter fuel allowances for themselves. I don’t know how they sleep at night.

My constituency voted a Labour woman MP in at the GE. She’s Scottish, but has no connection to Fife or any real knowledge of it or the issues her constituency faces. She’s been based in London for donkey years as CEO of a charity that provides medical aid to Gaza. Rumoured she doesn’t want to give that up as it’s a high paid gig. Starmer had her parachuted in to stand as the Labour candidate chosen messed up with some idiotic comment she made on X that was allegedly racist. There hasn’t been a peep out of the new MP since she was elected, nobody knows what she’s doing.

Much as I hate Salmond’s Alba Party, at least their outgoing MP was actually doing something for the area and not just sitting on his backside.

I just read they will still pay this but without the cost of living supplement.
For those of us living here we only get it if we receive a Swiss means tested benefit.

Decision’s been reversed, but what the new criteria will be to claim has yet to be decided.

I hope they keep some kind of means testing in place otherwise you get people like Richard Branson qualifying for it to keep the home fires burning. While he’s wintering in the sodding Caribbean.

The latest on this topic, it will not be paid to Switzerland

I am not sure if excluding Switzerland conforms to the “Mind the Gap” agreement.

They’re not specifically excluding Switzerland, they’re only paying it to people living in England and Wales.

Not excluding. You may need to qualify for it.

That link is out of date, I posted the new one.

And your new one took me to that so … :woman_shrugging:
