We are confused about the way that CH garages repair the car. The DPF of our car needed to be regenerated and we sent it to a neighbor garage. We agreed with the price orally 500-600CHF. Then I received the bill, 1300CHF and the DPF was fully damaged! Moreover, many electronic parts lost their cover/protection. Water hoses were not fixed to the engine.
Unfortunately, we still have not paid the bill(due date 10 Oct), the garage threatened to post us the bill with Admin fee in the next days.
Our questions are:
1. If we pay the bill now, is it possible that they still charge us the Admin fee? (I can imagine it will be quite high)
2. Should I ask them to recover the car to the initial condition (except DPF)?
If the bill was due on 10 October, you have sat on it for a while and it seems done nothing about your dissatisfaction with the work done or the doubling of the price quoted.
You should have complained on inspection at collection. And/or got the opinion of an independent service like TCS.
We have no idea of the make or age of the car.
1, The admin fee is likely to be CHF25
2, This doesn't make much sense. You mean do the work as you say they should have.
3, Worst case? The take you court for the money or you pay it all...
Many thanks! It is a Passat 2016. I would like them to recover the car because when I sent the car to another garage for DPF repairing, the 2nd garage refused to do it. They said the car is in very bad condition and they have risk. So better to go back to the initial garage to recover everything.
Ouch! First thing to do would be to take the car back to them, tell them you're not satisfied with the work, what garage 2 said and ask them to remedy the problem. If they do great, if they refuse then it starts getting complicated, but you have lots of options.
Sorry I cannot comment on the cost or the issue you are facing with the garage. You should have contacted them way before now if you were not satisfied with the service they provided.
I hope you can sort this with them as dpfs are not cheap.
Suggestion: It looks like most of your driving is short distances with your diesel car. This is very bad for the dpf. If so take the car for a 30 min autoroute run at least once a month (at night, less traffic and try to keep a constant speed of 110 to 120 kmph) to clear out the sooth in the dpf.
I had very limited experience. So when the garage gave me a car that can be driven, I just drive home. Only when the 2nd garage refused to repair it I realized the situation.
Negotiated with the 1st garage. I pay the bill and they install everything back. They even tried the regeneration once more, but it is dead. The measured soot is a negative number.
I learned a lesson: don't sit until the bill is expired. Complain ASAP.
