UPC Cablecom 'Happy Home' plans and price increase

I'm going to go out on a limb here and defend Cablecom somewhat. I pay 119 for 500MB, TV and no fixed phone. This was after switching from an 85 CHF/mo plan for 200 MB/s. Now I no longer have to pay 33 CHF to my landlord for the fixed internet cost. I also got a mobile contract from them with unlimited minutes/texts and 10GB data. There is also some nominal included MB for roaming in Europe. (250 GB) This costs me 10 chf additionally per month. So the total cost is 129 chf. I value the phone service at around 30 chf per month. So if I subtract the value of the phone service and the fixed fee of 33 chf, I am really paying 66 francs for a 500gb internet package and TV.....I consider that a fairly decent price. Plus I have just one bill to pay each month

I think you are paying 85 for your service plus 33 to your landlord, so your real cost is 118 chf.

For cloud backup services (which I incidentally don't use), I guess the more speed the better. But 1000Mbps is a bit difficult to believe and even if true, the weak link would be the PC / network card / cable to router.

i might be on the same tariff. paying around 70chf per month for ~250 internet only.

i went to look for a cheaper option but found only more expensive bundles. are there hidden plans anywhere?

when I called them to quit, they offered me a cheaper plan.

In an average household, yes, network card or router will be the weak link, so it's best to make sure your equipment can handle that speed and you're not just throwing money out the window.

Assuming they do optical cable all the way to the router.

But not in a tech-savvy household

Quite so, but with the new offer it would be CHF153/month to switch from 250Mbps to 500 and would I notice any difference other than paying CHF35 more a month??

For the present, I have reached 'peak speed'....

I dont know what kind of package you have now, but the most expensive package I see now is 139 with everything included. If you take out the fixed number it goes down to 129

I assume the monthly connection fee is included in all UPC offers?

yes, and it is now 37 CHF

these UPC mafia! From April it costs 39,90 CHF -more than the price of Billag!!!!

From April 2018, UPC will charge 39.90 francs a month for the cable connection. Many tenants pay this fee for the TV and Internet basic offer, without them knowing it - some even doubly.

"UPC has justified the increasing cable connection fees in recent years with the expansion of the TV service and the costs of the network infrastructure. For telecoms expert Oliver Zadori from the Jungle Compass comparison service, the annual fee increases are pure money making: "Other providers are also launching more expensive offers, but if so, then with more power. In recent years, the UPC has often made existing offers simply more expensive, »he says to the SRF consumer magazine« Espresso »."

I am a house owner and pay an annual fee (approx CHF31/month) on top of my package. Do mean if I changed package, I would no longer pay the annual fee??

Why don't you ask UPC?

I did...

Then you should at least share your answer from UPC

So me being a customer since 1989 (then Rediffusion) means I can get stuffed??

Well, as we - as tenants - can take the basic charge out of the rent and it will be included in the monthly fee we pay to cablecom, you as the owner of the house will also have that basic charge in the abo once you change to the "new system".

So - if I got that correctly from a post of an other memeber further up - when you check prices now for abos, that's what you will pay per month in total.

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong here. And PLEASE DO if so. It's also not clear to me whether all prices indicated now by cablecom are including the basic charge.

. Connect and play and connect is replaced by " happpie home"!

And this whole " happy home " concept is so stupid. Kitch!!

I had a look at this and theoretically I would get a lot more speed for less money with this new offer.

But as usually the website is crap. It's not clear whether they can even deliver what they offer ("your address was not recognized" rofl, they're able to send the bill since 11 years though ).

Also it seems they want to charge me the connecting-fee of Fr. 99.00 - being a customer already for 11 years.

Weird.

I just emailed my landlord to please get a binding answer to this question from upc. I shall publish it if I get it

There is no garantie that you will get the speed that is paid for. They make their " best effort"!
