My situation not retirement related payment (yet) but transfer of funds from an inheritance. My brother is the executor of our father’s will, the bank giving friction to transfer to a Wise or Revolut account.
Paid a few fees along the way but a lot less than if I’d let the banks do the conversion.

Problem solved!
I don't have an account with SDFCU, but I can share my experiences with other credit unions if that is of interest.
Been with SDFCU along with most US federal government employees for years
What about those of us who are not US citizens, but whose spouses are? In other words, I may be eligible for a small monthly SS pension through my spouse at some point, but I am not a US citizen. In their FAQs, I see I can't open an SDFCU account.
There was a time with Wise that you did not have your own account number, you had to use the more onerous (and risky) FBO information for the ACH.
Now you get your own account number with them, and for those instances where I need someone to send me USD, it works without issues.
I'm getting a tax refund from the IRS as soon as I can complete my filing, and the big test for me is to see if they'll send the refund to my Wise account.
So your significant other can open the account and make you a partner.
