Question on language certifications. My family and I move to BaselStadt last year; our anniversary is June 30th. It's all on my work permit, so I believe that my wife needs to complete at least A1 by that date.
She's well past there, and is considering taking A2. My question is, is there any "value" in that? Meaning, I can't imagine A2 would qualify her for any German speaking job, and from a permanent residency perspective BS requires (at last on some of hte dimensions) B1, so it wouldn't knock that out either. Basically, is there any reason why it would be worth the added stress (and potential for failure on some of the 4 dimensions) vs. just knocking out the A1 wihtout any worry? Thanks!

There are tests that ask questions at multiple levels, and rank your level accordingly, so that that a candidate may, in that one exam, pass, say, level A1 in speaking, B1 in listening skills, A2 in reading, etc. Perhaps that'd be a good option for your wife.
Or the SDS. Apparently, the SDS starts at low level and than goes up, while fide starts at high level and then goes down. Which can be very frustrating if one is barely an A2.
