What Goldtop said - you can buy them in post offices, supermarkets, probably petrol stations, places like that; they're around 5 chfs. Technically your 6 yr old doesn't need one, but that's because kids are not 'allowed' to ride their bikes on the road until they are (a) aged 7 AND (b) in school. I, however, also ride around with my 6 yr old (on super quiet roads and tracks, with a FollowMe Tandem attachment for busy bits or long trips), so she has a vignette on her bike too.
Now I know why everyone was looking at me and my daughter in a wierd way especially in winter. Now the weather is warmer and the snow gone, I see more and more parents biking with their kids ( same age as my daughter). I don;t feel so lonely anymore.
Anyways, I told my husband that I will buy 2 vignettes at Migros tomorrow. I wish I had started reading this forum when I first arrived !
My understanding was that the stickers were calendar year but could be used a bit longer as the police don't start checking for them until April-May. I've also been instructed (by relocation company) that the little metal people powered scooters need to have them as well. I haven't seen many around but we opted with caution and bought them (a few francs versus a lot of hassle we figured.)
I have just bought a new bike and I wanted to buy a bike number, but a friend told me that there is no need to buy because from the next year they will not be necesary. ̈!!!!!!!True?????
I believe that you'll still need a vignette for 2011, but not for 2012. You could buy one now, but would then get a 2010 version and would still need to buy a 2011 next year (by the end of May). If you can wait until January 1st then you could get away with only needing to buy the one for 2011.
Denner has a special on the 2011 Velo Vignette this week (as of tomorrow).
CHF 2.95 instead of CHF 5.90.
You need to spend over CHF 40 to qualify for the offer. The CHF 40 can't be for booze, tobacco, taxed garbage bags, other vignettes, vouchers or mobile telephone vouchers.
Quick question: where's the best bet if you need to buy a vignette in the 'off season'? It's only June, I assumed supermarkets would still have one or two languishing behind the counter but they don't seem to (checked Denner and Migros so far).
Do I need to find a bike shop, or is there somewhere else that sells them, and might still have them on hand this late in the year?
Are they still required? I tried to buy them at the post office in my village (Geneva canton) in March, and was told that they were no longer necessary and they didn't have any...
