Got strange treatment from my car insurer. I got my car damaged during parking, the perpetrator of course disappeared.
I was wrestling with them for 3 months to get paid, very painful process, for every step I had to call them and push them to roll the case forward. I had to pay for the damage out of pocket and they promised to return the money to me after showing up proof of payment.
In early August after yet another phone call I got confirmation letter that the amount has finally been paid but the money didn't arrive even after 2 weeks. After several phone calls I got a written letter that they paid the amount but they are cancelling my policy because I cost them more than average.
Their reasoning is okay-ish (though I believe in other countries with better customer protection laws such treatment would be illegal) because I had 2 claims in the last 3 years, summing up to about 17K (high-end cars, even small damage costs a lot to repair). This latter was 6K.
So I clearly need to get a new insurance policy. What difficulties should I expect? How much extra will I pay for insurance from now?
