For the waste disposal in Cargo Tram, is it necessary that we should dispose in our designated area? or we can go to other area where currently Cargo Tram is scheduled and dispose our stuff there. Yes, it is clear we should not carry stuff by Car, but I think we can have the waste in bags and drop it over there.
I have never seen them checking/asking from where you are. Have thought about doing this a couple of times but could not be bothered to go far away given that I don't have a car
Given that they also accept cardboard this was very tempting after having huge boxes left from deliveries to sit around for almost a month
As minimimi said, they don't check it. I have thrown away stuff twice and they didn't ask for anything. You can carry the stuff in bags and just leave them with them if you don't need them.
I haven't found this info yet despite my searches, but perhaps I missed something. Where should I dispose of unusable clothing and shoes? Things with holes, destroyed soles, etc. I live in Zürich.
Should I throw them away in the Züri-sack? Or is there an alternative? I'd love for the materials to be repurposed.
I would recommend place those Items in the züri sack, when something is damaged (or destroyed) , it will take pretty much effort to fix those problems.
The Collectors of clothing or shoes are looking for the "fast money" , the collection itself and the classification are the main cost factors.
If there is something damaged or destroyed, it will end up in the garbage.
I discovered when I was seeking advice earlier in the thread that, apart from the recycling trams, you can go anytime to Recyclinghof Hagenholz or Recyclinghof Werdhölzli in Zürich. These are big recycling centers with a range of bins for different household items. Someone is there to help if you need to know which bin for what, but then you are responsible for throwing stuff into the right bins.
One warning - you can only go there in a vehicle. The method for weighing your waste material is to weigh the vehicle on entry and exit. I went there by Uber but fortunately the Uber driver was an Auslander himself and curious about the place so that we Ubered in and out of the recyclinghof
I guess it varies by canton a lot like most things.
I am rather shocked still after 5 years that that all the rubbish is chucked into the same container here in block of flats - and in Geneva generally. One can walk a long way to a bottle bank but its not separated in each household like in the UK or Germany. Surprised things are backward here on that front.
Not backwards. Different. I for one clearly do not wish to have the German system where I have to dispose certain glass bottles a place A, some other at place B, and the reminder at place C. I also really enjoy I can dispose any broken or old electronic stuff free of charge at any store which sells electronic stuff. Same with batteries, specially car batteries. The logistics to get rid of such a battery in some other countries is just bonkers. It also really defines logic to trow all stuff in one recycling bin and truck just to separate it tediously and costly afterwards.
PS: If you need do find where you can dispose something properly and mostly free of charge you can use this map, it is also in English and shows all recycling places in Switzerland https://recycling-map.ch/en/
correct - you can just leave them on the street, or you can, in fact, use them for plastic recycling (that you then need to recycle appropriately), or you can just keep them to one side for when you DO have clothes to donate...
Thanks for the detailed information. I have a bunch of Styrofoam from a recent delivery and wasn't sure how to dispose of it. I think I will try the cargo tram or check to see if anyone on EF would be interested in the Styrofoam for projects.
The rest goes in the Züri-Sacke, unless you want to bring it to a garbage disposal site (Of which I here don't know if they collect plastic separately)
However looking to drop off concrete and stones for recycling, but don't think they cope with these materials.
Have to load my trailer with over a ton of materials for the trailer test in Zurich, but then want to go to Regensdorf to pickup a Tiller, so would be good to dump the material on the way.
