Weather in Switzerland

This very moment the sun is blindingly bright that's coming through my living room window and it's snowing at the same time..!

Look here for animated continuously updated precipitation radar info:

On Saturday morning we got this miraculous morning and afternoon of perfect blue sky in Luzern and the luzern border of Aargau. An opportunity for snow schoe walking that had to be snapped up quick... It started p$$ing down again around 5pm!

Generally good weather for lazing around the house, watching movies and baking hotcross buns (which were nowhere to be found in Switzerland ). But I can think of worse things than laziness and hot cross buns

In the mean time happy easter all!

Nice.. Makes you wonder if it isn't worth moving the commercial centres instead

Ticino is sheltered by the alps - weather systems traveling 'cross central EU are deflected by the mountains so on oaverage we do tend to have fairly sunny conditions. The flip side to this situation is that TI, especially the sottoceneri and mendrisiotto do experience pollution buildup, thanks to the influence of the Como-Varese-Milano triangle (appx 3 million inhabitants).

How is the weather in Vevey? I will be there this summer and not sure what type of clothes I should take. What is the avg temp there?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Most of all its unpredictable.... on a summer day you can get everything from 8° to 34°C, where a +/- normal day would probably be around 23°-28° during day time. Better to check the forecasts a week or so before you leave and then pack accordingly. But in general, the weather in Vevey is much better than in German-speaking Switzerland.

Vevey has extremely pleasant summers. Temperatures are moderated by Lac Leman. I agree with the avarage 23c to 25c range with peaks in the low 30s. It can rain on and off if you're unlucky and short sharp thunderstorms (with hail) are a definite possibility due to proximity of the alps. Generally low humidity but it can get humid in August but nothing like say New York. I personally have never experienced temperatures of 8c in Summer or anything near as low as that.

I was thinking more of Zurich I guess - two years ago we had 8° in August...

Y'all are about to scare me off! My husband keeps telling me it is "warm" in Switzerland. Now I think he is pulling the wool over my eyes!

Don't forget temps quoted here are most likely in celcius 0°c = 32°f. An easy formula for conversion is °c x 2 + 32 = °f

example: 10°c x 2 + 32 = 52°f (about)

I am doing the conversion. It's still too darn cold for my tastes! Then again, my favorite place I lived weather wise was Phoenix, so my taste run hot.

If in doubt go straight to the horse's mouth (it's prettier than the other end)

Can we assume, that summer is officially over now and Fall is slowly setting in?

My shivering tomato plants say YES.

Bring on the snow - me wants to go snowboarding

P.

Summer has not yet really begun. What we had was a hot late spring.

Wolli, that was summer....

25 degrees and perfect weather in Tirol :-)

The Accuweather forecasts for 1st and 2nd August plus 5th August look very good. So that August may be good ...................

What we've had so far has been an exceptional summer. Certainly the best that I can remember over the past 5 years.

To be honest the summer months are normally by far the wettest months.

I've looked at several charts and all say pretty much the same thing. It rains in summer almost twice as much as in the winter. What we have at the moment is pretty much the norm for northern Switzerland.
