What car seat do you use for the kids?

Oh I don't for one minute think he's been frightened off. Probably just a bit busy what with having two young kids and it being Christmas and all that.

I think John H is probably made of sterner stuff than to be frightened off by a random off topic discussion on EF.

We use the Britax kidfix XP for our just turned 7 yr old. It attaches using the isofit system - being isofix tether points attaching the seat to the car together with the child being secured in the seat using the adult seat belt.

NB it is NOT Isofix that has a weight limit of 18 kg but rather the five point safety harness plus isofix fitting only that has a weight limit. The seat we have has a weight limit of 33 kg - which should take our child up to 150cm limit for car seats - but at these weights the adult seat belt must be used to secure the child in the seat.

Our other car seat is a recaro - also isofix and up to 33 kg. Our 11 year old was comfortable in it until he grew taller than 150 cm a few months ago.

PS was it really off topic to discuss what child seats are best for children of the age the OP was posting about?

It is off topic when taken to the degree that BLP continues to labour the point.

I don't doubt that her opinion is valid, but don't think it requires driving home to the extent of PMing another member to post in her stead because she claims she's exceeded her daily posting limit (yet miraculously could answer me two hours later).

This is getting silly. She did not pm me to post in her stead - she pm'd me about something specific and mentioned by the by that she felt a bit stupid as her posting limit had apparently been exceeded and she cpuld no longer reply on yte thread. So I offered to mention this for her. Nothing more sinister.

I also got some PM.... you hit it right on the head with the first line of your post, it's getting a bit like if you shout loud enough, you're right !

Yes allow the OP to clarify .By booster I do not mean the little hard square cushion thing that purely elevates the child.

I have britax high back boosters already, multi-point harness, side protection, wrap around head stuff etc etc.. All CE and relevant authority approved. Stage 2/3. BUT fixed by the car seatbelt. Don't go ahead and read into the post that we're driving around with the kids sitting on some kind of cushions :/

My question is on ISOfix. We have a volvo and it has all the safety bells and whistles for attaching seats. But my local stores that sell car seats only have ISOfix on the stage 1 baby seats, they don't have ISOfix on the stage 2/3 seats .. That's my issue, i find the current seats a pain in the ass to fit and remove, I want ISOfix stage 2/3 but find them hard to come by locally.. So I was wondering -- Do you guys have them, found them ok in the shops, recommend one in particular.

I bought our Britax - Romer kidfix XP in Basel Manor. We have a volvo as well and of all the various car seats (all of which have been isofix) I have had over the years it is by far the easiest isofix fixing to fit - you just slide it forward and it clicks easily - with the Recaro isofix seat for our oldest, the mechanism is almost identical but there is lots of pushing back and forward and one side clicking and not the other etc.

There is no five point harness to the Britax Romer so you need to be sure that your child will not open up the adult belt - we delayed moving our son into this seat for as long as possible exactly because of this but I think most children are reasonable about this on the whole.

EDit At the stage 2/3 Britax Romer call their seats "isofit" and from what I tell the difference is that notwithstanding the isofix fittings included in the seat, you need the adult seat belt as well to use the seat. Isofix fittings alone cannot secure the child and the seat into the car at this weight/age.

The problem with what you said is that many people DO just use a plain booster seat. You called it a booster vs a car seat again, so it can be confusing.

I did a lot of research on the ISOFIX, there is conflicting info from car companies and car seat companies as to weight limits. The belt is a safe option, even if it's a pain. I would check your cars manual to see if it mentions any limits.

I was not able to reply yesterday so I replied via PM to a few people. I felt it odd to not be able to reply on the thread, sorry if this upset anyone

It's nice to have a hobby.

LOL funny, I should be doing more work, but I'm sick, I should go try though ay

John H, try this site http://shop.carseat.se/ they sell a lot of car seats and the owner I know is very good at giving advice.

Is one that seems high on the limits

Annnnndddd this was exactly my point. No I was not being snarky, I was purely pointing out that we call it a booster by that we mean " fully equipped and legal, totally safe and tested" without using high tech terminology. Get it now?

We all agree that for under 4s rear facing is proven safest, but some of us use a different kind of safe. Not your safe, but approved safe.

Happy new year!

ISOFIX are the norm and preferred fixing method these days - your local Toys R Us for example will have a load of them across all the relevant age/size ranges. You can also look online at babyjoe.ch and similar - maybe start with toppreise.ch.

For the record, we've used MaxiCosi since birth - currently using their FeroFix seats for both our boys although these are no longer current models. IIRC we'll need to get one more seat for each boy before they don't need child seats any more.

Isofix seems the logical minimum to consider, especially considering most cars accomodate isofix... Römer Safefix Plus is the one we went with and that was down to reviews, safety rating & a 5 point harness...I suppose most car seats also employ a recline option but it really is a practical feature to have

Cleaning is not a breeze as removing the covers is really a tedious chore but we're very happy with the purchase - used on anibis for a fraction of the original price

Curious what others use myself...I've read good reviews on the Chicco XSpace Isofix too and we'll be in the market for a 2nd car seat soon

Whichever's cheapest.

We never had this nonsense when I was a kid, I see no reason for it now.

Tom

We have from Maxi-Cosi with the very easy ISO-fix system the "Pebble" for our youngest, and the "Pearl" for our 3-year old.

Now we're about to buy/need the Rodifix, cat 2/3:

Maxi-cosi have a nice website to choose/compare seats:

http://www.maxi-cosi.com/products/ca...d/rodifix.aspx

Although not as popular as the "Römer" brand in Switzerland, maxi-cosi is quite well available in bigger stores and of course online ( eg at babyjoe.ch, about CHF 70 less expensive than buying a Rodifix in a shop).
