Here's the sign
Some signs just went up in our neighborhood with the exclamation point (meaning "watch out" I know that part) and then "Amphibien" underneath. What, are there endangered frogs/lizards around? I know there are no dangerous critters in CH, so it is not warning of venomous frogs/lizards...what is the sign warning of?
Early Spring is frog season.
Could be that the signs are near frog spawning areas close to roads.
As much as oil slicks are slippery, I'm pretty sure compact frogs might have a similar effect.
Joking aside, a lot of frogs are partially endangered so best not to squash them.
Down our way the block off drain grids at the edge of roads with metal sheets with small holes in and have a frog fence installed across a field near a main road. Volunteers collect the frogs in buckets and transfer them over the road...
It means you should slow down to a slow crawl and be on the lookout for little creatures that hop. If spotted you must come to a complete stop to give time and allow the poor little critter to cross the street. It may take a while so it helps to have some food and a beverage along to help endure your extend wait. Sometimes they do get confused crossing streets and change direction. You must have patience. It's not an easy Life being a hopper.
