What is Considered Child Abuse in Ticino ?

Erm, no. This is a statement by a Swiss NGO with a focus on protecting children's rights.

I hope everybody does.

When I was growing up in England in the 70s and 80s, smacking naughty kids was pretty the norm. Corporal punishment in state schools was outlawed in the mid 1980s and in independent schools in the late 1990s. Parents are still allowed to use physical chastisement - no idea what the limits are.

Personally I would never hit my 5 year old - as tempting as it might be sometimes! - as I think there are other, better ways of disciplining kids. The important thing is to be "consequent" about what you regard as unacceptable behaviour and to use disciplinary techniques - timeouts, no story at bedtime etc - in a consistent manner.

Whenever I hear a littl'un throwing a tantrum in the supermarket or on a bus, and crying its eyes out, my attitude is one of "got the T-shirt".

Cheers,

Nick

I am truly against hitting anyone let alone a child.
