I discussed about this with Blacks in South Carolina, Louisiana and Texas, and while we got united in condemning the racism of much of the Confederacy, the united sympathies were with the Confederacy nevertheless.
"worrying" ? Quite many people here have relatives in the states of the Confederacy, and got used to see that the relatives are staunch confederates, detesting "those Yankees" and preferring Mexicans over Yankees "because the Mex we can throw out, but not the Yanks"

The fact is that minds that can conceive of pancakes and sausages on a stick with chocolate chips , and corresponding bodies that crave and process those sticks of heaven are the reason that the U.S. is the bomb. It doesn't compute- yet it does .
A) What is mentioned is the E.U., but the E.U. is NOT "Europe" but just the leading organisation of "organized Europe"
B) the USA is both population-wise and area-wise comparable to Europe (without Russia & Turkey)
C) I on trips to the USA always had charts with me where I could show that if you cover a Europe map with the USA in the same scale you can cover it all
D) if you include Canada on the North America side and Russia and Turkey on the European side you have the same result again
E) if you travel out of Zürich to Cairo and then out of Houston/Texas the same distance east you are in Miami
F) if you travel out of Zürich some 700 kms north-east-east you are in Praha/Prague, if you do the same out of Houston you are somewhere south of Shreveport/Louisiana ! This is the thing I used overthere until 1990, telling them that they had to imaging living with an Eastern Block and having the Red Army just behind a RedRiver-Mississippi-Missouri line

Where I come from we don't say, "duplicate the recipe if you want twice the pancake batter" . Though duplicate can mean double (as in double the quantity), can't recall anyone using it that way. 'Course where I come from a fanny is a rear end, as in booty, like the boot trunk of a car.

Growing up in Texas, "The Yellow Rose" was a song we sang in my family quite often. I never knew it as a Confederate song per se... just a Texas song... one of several along with "Deep in the Heart of Texas".
And now that you've piqued my curiosity... I've found it was written in 1858... just a few years before the civil war. So not really a "Confederate" song, but very much a Texan song.
