Where do young men buy their trousers?

I think I have seen 32"/34"jeans in just about every major retail shop that I have been in... many Swiss guys are tall so the size is hardly anything unusual.

The larger "cheap" jeans shops are:

H&M

Manor

Zara

It really shouldn't be a problem finding stuff at those places.

Well what a difference a change if store makes. Thanks for the tip.

I dragged him ( rather reluctantly I might add) to the Maladiere centre this morning and managed to find two pairs of jeans that both fit and he likes in H&M and another pair in C&A ( which has a minuscule men's department). They didn't have many to choose from in his size (well basically the ones we bought) but at least we got something and without too much hassle and he won't have to go back to school on Monday looking like Norman Wisdom.

We'd looked several times in the much larger ( double the size) H&M store in the Marin centre and found nothing at all.

Maybe in Zurich but not in Neuchâtel. The Swiss who live here don't seem to be of the 'tall' variety so the stores don't seem to have too much choice for them. There are a lot of Italians and Portugese ( and their descendants) in this area and they don't tend to be tall and tall men are pretty much the exception around here.

Manor has always been a good place to get his clothes in the past and is our usual 'go to' store but we sometimes go to H&M however our initial shopping trip turned up slim pickings this time. Maybe the population of Neuchâtel has had a sudden growth spurt and bought all the long trousers.

I have to say we have been seriously underwhelmed by Zara here ( it only opened in August) which was disappointing as it was one of my regular haunts in Brussels.

Board a train and 34 minutes later you are in jeans wonderland. Well at least in a much more deversified land: in Berne!

Just next to the railway station: http://www.jeans-co.ch/stores-58.html

and some more:

besides the larger compartment stores with larger selections, probably.

By the way. When you found something suitable, they will kindly accept any further reservations!

The problem with longer trousers is that they tend to be wider too. People tend to assume that if you're very tall you must also be on the fat side. Which of course makes shopping quite tricky for tall but skinny people!

Fixed that for you

I'm bang in the middle of the BMI scale and I take a 32" waist 34" leg trousers.

That's why they have a 30/34 size... for skinny tall people.

You've got a point there. There were plenty of 34" leg length in the 34" waist size, a few in 32" and a couple in 30".

We have a very tall and very skinny friend who ironically is Italian ( having said in my earlier post that Aitalians tend to be short). I'm going to ask him where he buys his trousers next time I see him.

Of course it exists but it's kinda hard to find. Most shops stock longer trousers in wider waists. And the opposite is just as true: if you're on the short side, better be slim as well, otherwise you'll struggle to find fitting clothes.

Most shops stock clothes built for the average build, lo and behold if you're sligh different!

On the other hand, I'm perfectly average and there's never anything left my size in the sales!
