where to buy bottled soda water in ZH?

No help to Walter (sorry), but while I was looking I came across this site which seems to have all our favourite foreign pops - in fact pretty much everything except soda water.

I use it to make "Spritz" for the Missus and myself (and as aperitif for tomorrow night Grub Club dinner (plug plug plug... )

it's a typical Venetian aperitif, every bar in Venice has its own recipe, but the (rough) guidelines are 1/5 Campari, 2/5 white wine, 2/5 soda water, slice of orange and a brined green olive (un-rinsed).

Legal disclaimer: the above mentioned drink is HIGHLY addictive...

Fixed that one for you!

Ok, in case anyone else is looking for soda water... I'm giving a try to Valser Classic as I type and, although not exactly the same, is as close as I could find...

So, until der SChweiz gets dragged kicking and screaming into the modern age and start selling proper soda water in bottles , I think that Valser is going to be as good as it gets.

BTW, thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'll buy you a beer next time

I was in the London Store in Zug today so asked Eric the owner if he sold soda water as I would not mind some myself. He did not have any but has added it to the "wish list", if more people ask for it he will order some.

As someone who owns (and uses daily) a sodaclub machine, I thank you kindly for this recipe.

I know exactly what you are looking for. I have searched everywhere for it and not been able to find it. Resorted to buying soda fountain and adding a small amount of bicarb (from the baking goods section of the supermarket) or San Pellegrino as someone else suggested above.

Would be really interested to know if you find it.

Just been looking on Britshop for something & found that they are now selling soda water http://www.britshop.ch/__product/41/...nal-Soda-Water

The search for "Soda Water in Zürich" brought me to this bit of

information I may share?

http://www.wisegeek.com/topics/drinking-soda-everyday.htm

"Soda is one of society’s favorite beverages. Each year, billions of gallons of soda are sold in the United States alone. Though it is popular with men, women, and children, many experts believe drinking soda may have serious health consequences.

Some studies have suggested a link between drinking soda and obesity. Soda is high in sugar and calories. Combined with its practically nonexistent nutritional value, soda may cause drinkers to pack on the pounds without receiving even the smallest nutritional benefit. Surprisingly, drinking diet soda has been linked to weight gain as well. However, some experts assert that obesity may be caused not by drinking soda, but by the combination of drinking soda and leading a sedentary lifestyle."

Most airliners use them for business and first class so I assume they must have a supplier in CH somewhere...

You are confusing the US word for what we Brits call pop with soda water. Soda water is not fattening .

Bombayites like me are used to whisky with club soda . I had been looking for club soda for quite a while and had visited this thread a few months ago - and it seemed no one had any proper lead on how to get it.

I mean the really fizzy kind!

Few weeks ago when I visited Art Of Food · Franklinstarsse 4, 8052 Zürich I asked the friendly couple who run it to try and get Club Soda.

Well they have it now

It is an Indian brand

http://dsgroupindia.com/catch-beverages.aspx

And although it has a twist off plastic cap (not the traditional metal cap) it has all the fizziness one expects. In fact the cap is great as it can be tightened and reused.

So guys go ahead and get them ....

I got around 25 bottles to start with.

Sorry to bump this again. But it doesn't look like Art of Food carries this anymore.

Has anyone else had luck finding "Club Soda"?

I have asked Coop and Migros already. They don't have the natural soda water. I want to make Moijito but I Cannot. You Fan only buy flavoured soda water in Coop.

ha!

not enough posts to thank yet properly -- so thanks here.

I just ordered 96 bottles of Schweppes club soda from www.mytime.de for EUR 0.79 per 200 ml bottle + EUR 0.10 recoverable deposit per bottle (pfand) + EUR 4.99 (shipping). Got a EUR 7.50 coupon discount on registering (coupon code: ACUZELANEW) [Total EUR 82.93 will be delivered on Jan 30]. Delivery must be within Germany to your favourite swiss border package service (I use swisspaket.ch at Jestetten). [Also available at slightly higher price from amazon.de and lieferello.de].

I wish you joy, rakhal.

Decent bars will have a siphon for sparkly, sparkly soda water but it‘s still uncommon. Guess the Swiss water lobbies have something to say about competing with their products.

I use a Sodastream to make carbonated water. It uses a big canister of CO2 and you have some control over the fizziness. You can get the device, bottles and gas canisters at Coop. It’s different from the more traditional fizz maker used with a small CO2 cartridge mentioned most often in this thread and I’m surprised no one suggested Sodastream.

They also sell a range of syrups which are used to make soft drinks, but I only use it for making soda water.

I usually use filtered tap water, but it might taste more like mineral water if you were to use the straight “crunchy” version?

Best to use it all on the day you make it. It doesn’t stay as fizzy over 24 hours.

If you read the whole thread, sodastream was mentioned several times.

Oh, and I was at the Kosmos cinema last week and they have soda on tap at the bar, and offer a variety of really good syrups to go with it... and of course your choice of alcohol...

Swisspea, are you sure? No one used the brand name that I could find, and that surprised me. Lots suggested a soda siphon, which is a more generic device and not as easy to find in a Coop. Have a look yourself and show me where I missed it?
