Where to store garbage inside the apartment?

I can't reliably make out what the differences are myself. Appears the recyclable kind has a rice-like texture appearance to it and the non-recylable has a fine texture and is whiter.

Most apartments also come with a "Keller", a lockable storage room in the basement, which can be used as "service area" for food and waste storage.

Most cellars are open rooms. Each room has a lock. And for sure its not a place to put your stinking garbage!!

Dark age

Nope, OP will definitely make friends if storing the household rubbish in the cellar!!

This is outside your house if you rent:

make sure you use the correct bags. And check, one is usually for trash and an other for green garbage. Ours look the same, only the labelling is different.

And here is loads of info in English.

"

Kantonale Verordnungen bleiben vorbehalten."

"Waste must not be left open or in bags on the balcony, in the patio, in the garden

Store basement or outside the apartment.

If no containers are available, the garbage bags may not be used until at least

Eve of the discharge day to be picked up in front of the house.

Cantonal regulations remain reserved."

The English version does not make sense

but the german version does

OP will be very pleased about that.

Well its not to early to start learning German

people who feel lazy just store their trash and recyclabes on the balcony but reallly nothing stops you from bringing the sacks immediately to the container.

Nothing except the possibility of a fine if you are caught. Not to mention that neighbors probably don't appreciate it, either. I know that it pisses me off when pick up is Tuesday and there are already bags out on Sunday.

No, I just do not have that much trash to fill one bag in one go. So it takes a while until it is full.

Bags are still free here, so we don't have to totally fill them!

Tom

Actually, not. We used to have dumpsters with pickup, which were eliminated 15-20 years ago.

Now all is underground, and you can dump at will (for free).

Tom

In Zurich it is perfectly o.k. to put the bag in the container an y time. Also bags must be in the container or wheely bin. That's the very purpose of those items and thus any building without a nearby underground container has at least one of those.

I was referring to those places where there is no container. Such as my building and most of the ones around me.

Smaller bags perhaps? (that is if you are not using the smallest one already)

My upstairs neighbours do this, and in the summertime I get maggots raining down onto my balcony through the cracks. I'll be installing strips of duct-tape this spring to hopefully prevent that from happening this year.

Is it a bottomless pit?
