Which socket should I connect to?

Hi all,

I recently ordered an internet subscription from green.ch.

The router arrived today, and the connection should be already active, but I got all confused when I wanted to connect the router.

I have 2 sockets, as per attached pictures. One I assume is for the TV cable connection (my neighbor is using that with UPC), the other one is a telephone one I assume.

Since Green operates on Swisscom's infrastructure I assume I have to use the telephone socket, but with the questions I've been asked by the provider, like which uplink box should they activate the connection for, I'm not sure anymore if I will get it done so easy.

Problem is they provided 2 options, and in the building there are 2 stores and 3 apartments.

I'm afraid they could potenitally have activated connection for either my neighbors or one of the stores.

I will have to get an adapter from the 4 pin socket to either ethernet or telephone connector and test.

Is it possible that even though by checking online connection should be available, but in reality I could only use the TV plug?

And is there a way to identify the uplink box without a techician?

I think I will have to arrange a technician anyway if it does not work, but maybe I can figure this out myself.

Photo 1) left is cable TV, right is cable modem.

I was with green initially, they came into my apartment and changed the plug (something like you have) to something newer with a fiber connection. They routed the fiber through the walls down to the basement.

Getting the people there was a pain, they told me to ring swisscom who told me to ring green who forwarded me to another part of swisscom only to go in circles a while

It seems they changed strategy now and partnered up with Mila, so if I need a technician to fix this I will of course have to pay for an appointment.

Easy, look no further than my post

And then follow the link that Island posted to another post.

The 4 thingy you just remove it and replace with an RJ45 connector, I describe in the post what I did. Easy enough

I bought an adapter from the 4 pin plug to RJ45 and the newer telephone connector. Still nothing either they activated the incorrect connection or they haven’t activated yet (they confirmed it’s activated and at the same time sent an email and letter saying that it will be activated 8th june) - if, of course, this million years old building is properly connected.

Online check showed that there is connection under this address. Anyway I raised a ticket on their site.

Good luck, on the bright side yiu only need the most basic of phone line to get the internet going so unless there is a misconnection in your phone jack you should be OK.

OK so problem solved. I had a technician over and he changed the 4-plug telephone socket to a new RJ45, and confirmed that Green activated the connection on the wrong UP box. After some struggle everything is working fine now.
