A colleague told me if your country of residence is Hungary the rates seem to drop too.
I use Europcar, I have a 'funway' card which brings the prices down a bit, and it's normally cheaper to get the car from the airport rather than downtown locations in my experience.
In Zürich I've found it's the opposite, airport pickup is always cheaper which is a shame as there's a Europcar office round the corner from my office.
I have hired cars in the UK at Airports on seven occasions this year, 3 times I was paying under £10 a day, 3 times between £10-20 a day & Once £27 for just 1 day.
In my experience the airport prices always trump local prices e.g. I looked for a rental between the 28th Dec and 1 Jan, and I was getting £54 (Enterprise) from Luton versus at least £115 in Edgware, Park Royal, Wembley, Harrow etc.. Its simply numbers, the airport depots have more cars, hence the prices are lower.
mobility is a pretty awesome service if you are planning on renting a car often. I had it for a few months and it is very reasonable. They have a wide range of cars available, many different ports to get the cars to and from and you can control the reservations from an app on your phone. Worth taking a look for sure.
Not my experience, I have seen several big companies adding on a supplement for airport pick-ups. Obviously things can change, but just be aware of the possible supplement, maybe the rip off is only in England and Ireland. Certainly at Luton, Gatwick, Bournemouth, & Dublin airports.
If you have mobility, you get really good rates with Hertz and Avis (I can vouch for Hertz, used them c20 times this year)for longer trips, when mobility pricing is too expensive.
The best deals usually happen by comparing the top three, with Sixth included Mobility is great when you need cars for 3 hours, but the bill will be just as expensive as a rental company just with more convenience.
Zurich airport adds a tax to the car bill which makes it less competitive, and its such a hassle to return and pick up a car. For us, we now look at the different companies for best price as well as the best car.....so we are not always after the cheapest options, though I have seen ridiculously low prices
Thanks Bozza, didn't know that. We called mobility today about monthly prices but they don't do that anymore they said. we are Avis members for years (president) so we always get 2 levels higher category then what we pay but even if we rent the cheapest car it comes to around 850 francs for 30 days and the same car if we rent in Konstanz Avis would be 375 euros or 400 francs so cannot digest the price difference. I just checked Hertz and looks like they have something cheaper if it's 3 months so will call them tomorrow. Thanks again.
