Don’t know. Those were the rules in th U.K. - I guess other countries set their own.

the whole post 9/11 airport security farce is utterly ridiculous and designed purely to make the masses feel like the government is doing something to make them safe and hence not kill the air travel industry.

Really, who gives a damn as long as your plane leaves on time with you in it?
Theoretically, you can fly within Schengen without showing your ID .
And if you’re worried about Covid you shouldn’t fly to begin with.
Why do some people groan at this question ?
For flights within the Schengen area there is no legal obligation to show ID at boarding. Some airlines do it (notably Easyjet), but that's their choice and primarily done for revenue protection purposes. Certainly in pre-Covid times, Swiss never bothered checking identity at the gate. Security is checked at the security checkpoint, no real need to check it again. If someone else uses my ticket to fly, that isn't a security risk. It might be of concern to the airline and contrary to their T&Cs, but nothing more.
