It's just as important that it is beautiful or not. Anyway, the people have decided they don't want buildings over a certain height.
Making taller uglier buildings doesn't necessarily solve the problem. Look at NYC. There are plenty of tall buildings and you still can't get decent housing without either paying a fortune or moving further out.
When I think of skyscrapers they are mainly offices / shops / hotels. People are normally housed in high rise structures which in most cities are dwarfed by the commercial skyscrapers.
Furthermore, some converted factories actually make very cool housing. Ever been to Hamburg? There are plenty of nice converted warehouses and factories there. And they're highly sought after.
Ummm, that's considered a real "hip" thing to do btw. And I would think, logically, you would know, especially in country like Switzerland, if there was any contamination it would be cleaned first.
I worked in the Puls5 building in Zurich and it's not only amazing to look at, and walk thru, it's a great re use of space. And strangely contributes to your industry is better for accomodating people, and less what the skyline looks like.
Yes but didn't you say earlier that the great financial cities of the world have a great skylines filled with skyscrapers? Skyscrapers filled with what then?
Come to Detroit, where a boom in building and commerce, was met with some rioting and everything has gone downhill since then. Most of the buildings in the Detroit skyline are not only an eyesore, but getting in the way of advancing the city forward.
