Everyone keeping their tanks topped up is part of the problem.
Back when Bertha Benz made her historic trip from Mannheim to Pforzheim in 1888, she fueled up at pharmacies.
At some point, we‘ll get there. A grand arc of history.
Too bad there was nobody at Mercedes or BMW bold enough to see the potential for EVs when they were on the horizon.
At least not as bold as her.
OMG, so much common sense. People from the government take the reasonable option and not the populist one, it should be recognized.
If a business goes bankrupt because fuel is too expensive, well…there’s short-time work and unemployment payments for that.
From the Confederation’s point of view, high prices fulfill an economic function. “In the current context, it is essential that fuel prices reflect scarcity. This encourages saving, turning to alternatives, improving efficiency, and investing in other solutions,” writes the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), when asked by 20 Minutes.
SECO does not set a specific threshold for the price of diesel or gasoline at which the Confederation would intervene. The determining factor would rather be the development of the economy as a whole. If it were to weaken, unemployment insurance and compensation for short-time work would come into play first, according to SECO.
Maybe were getting to the point where every member of the household owns an e-scooter or an e-bike to ride out the fuel crisis.

Not all manufacturers. Have no fear.
Apparently, oil-flow is slowly creeping back to normal:
Doesn’t seem to be affecting Migrol. I ordered some more central heating oil on the 28th September, was delivered this morning. Never had it so fast. Got the confirmation of the order in the post after the delivery had been done. ![]()

Travel is becoming a luxury.
If you shop at Coop, sometimes the self-checkout spits out a voucher for 4Rp off a litre of fuel (valid for a month or so). I’ve picked up a few over the last few months, and been known to pick one up from the bin next to the desk
.
Also on the app there is an occasional voucher. The one I have now is for 6Rp off.
