My ROI when I installed solar nearly 6 years ago I estimated at about 11 years after the various subsidies and tax deduction. With developments since I reckon it’s going to be nearer 7 or 8 years.
I looked into this a while ago.
The yield is very low for small installations.
Have any of you inistalled a balcony solar ‘plug and play’ type kit?
Rooftop solar installation makes no economic sense for us - but I still have that nagging feeling that I should do ‘something’ as an energy back up.
So I see that Landi (and others) offer a balcony solar kit for something like CHF 4-500. I wonder if these might be worthwhile as a sort of trial, a chance to measure actual benefit.
I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who is using balcony panels.
You can find lots of videos about these on YouTube. Most talk about panels with solar cells on both sides and use a portable battery to test them. I think they’re particularly interesting for individuals who rent [so most people in Switzerland], since they require almost no installation, so you can take them with you when you change flats.
Depends on how much consumers you have during the day.
Fridges, freezers, computers - anything that runs on 220.
I am not sure if stove and oven and other 3-phase consumers count.
But any energy the above devices consume during the day will come from those panels on the balcony.
I’d try if you can get a used one even cheaper from someone in your village or a couple of villages over. The cheaper it is, the faster the ROI. Just google the inverter used for any issues.
Do you have a plug on the balcony?
Hey, where do you live? EKZ (electricity company kanton ZH) offers panels for the balcony. Check if your local company offers something similar. There’s even some info on how tenants can for the consent of landlord.
We put a 12kWh max system a year ago. In those 12 months we have produced close to 2’000 kWh. (It was quite a sunny year though). Self-sufficiency 64%.
