I have been looking for a new apartment to move into. No urgency or absolute need but just bored living in the same apartment specially after spending 2 years of pandemic largely working from home.
Couldn’t find anything in Zurich fitting my preferences within the budget that I’d like. However, in Winterthur some great options but my heart is in Zurich.
So question to those living in Winterthur as single or couple (no kids) how do you like it there, pros and cons and if you lived in both Zurich and Winterthur, any significant differences?
I have studied for 3 and worked for 8 years in Winti but never moved there.
Two reasons for me:
First there is no body of water. No lake, no river. That was a huge issue for me having grown up at the lake.
Second check you're not paying much more in taxes. Might not be significant for you but I would have gone from a tax rate of roughly 80 to roughly 120%. Zuri city is more so the difference might be less.
I think Winti is nice enough but a combination of the two meant I never moved
Probably what matters a lot is where you and your partner will work and commute frequently. I would consider every city with a direct train line to (the closest station to) your working place, then start pruning and shortlisting e.g. keeping only those only <30 mins of ride away from work. That's what I did myself.
If being near a lake in a Zurich commmuter town is what you are looking for, then Zug is a much better option. Winterthur is a nice enough town but nothing special by Swiss standards.
