Wood pieces for wood carving near Morges/Lausanne?

Hello,

I am looking to get into wood carving. I have the tools but I am looking for some wood for working (e.g. basswood). Is there any place that sells that?

I would like to find a place that has smaller pieces rather than a huge wood workshop that might be bothered by me asking for such tiny amount of food.

Thanks!

I scanned through all the posts and it's only about firewood, while I'm looking for specific types of wood for carving. Not all woods do the job, so it should be a semi-specialized place, or at least a place which carries pieces cut for carving and not for burning.

Matty had another thread on wood for other purposes. Do a search.

I guess it was this thread about wood to make a table https://www.englishforum.ch/items-wa…le-wanted.html

I don't do wood carving hence I do not have a direct answer but many places have walnut that should be suitable for wood carving (e.g. coop bau & hobby). Similar shops may have also other woods of interest to you.

Another option is asking some furniture manufacturers (including smaller ones) if they could help you out..

None of these suggestions work for this question. I'm talking specifically about carving wood (e.g. basswood, limewood, African black wood, etc.), not just any place selling random wood.

Limewood is Lindeholz, oder?

If so, you might try this guy, Armon Gerber, Schnitzbedarf:

Nowhere near you, but it looks like he delivers throughout Switzerland.

Unfortuantely the website says he is not able to deliver wood until at least the middle of August.

Nonetheless, you might want to write him. Who knows, he might be able to suggest sources for the other woods you are looking for.

Good luck with your project!

Possibly do a search for Swiss wood sculptors online and drop them an email asking where they source their wood?

The art community tends to be very friendly and helpful to others.

I understand that you have some specific wood on your mind but I have lots of carvings done on walnut so I do know it is suitable for wood carving. The place where we purchased was also doing wood carving on cherry and maple. I also have some carvings done on Mango but that's lower quality wood and carvings.
