But as per my previous post, individual deductions will make a difference.
Using 95k gives a liability from 12856-15779 which is a million miles from the 23k you suggested (less deductions)
The difference between tax at source & normal tax in Canton Zurich will generally be quite small in the - 10% to + 15% range, nothing to loose sleep over.
I managed over 20k of deductions last year in addition to deductions for AHV, Unemployment insurance & pension with a substantially lower annual salary.
Congrats OP. Our tax decreased when we went over to normal tax but we live in a low tax commune. They kept the tax at source we'd already paid and credited it ( plus a bit of interest) to our annual bill and then we paid monthly estimated amounts for the rest of the year and we ended up with a rebate at the end. Not in the same canton as you though.
Is paying every month optional? I thought most Swiss paid in one lump sum at the end of the year, but perhaps I misunderstood? (personally, I would prefer to pay month by month as well)
Because I had to file a tax return anyway each year, my assumption is that I will have to pay about the same amount of taxes - because it is in the end the same calculation.
Is that correct?
They sent a questionnaire to fill in with our income, assets etc in order to give us an estimate.
They then sent the paying in slips with 10 monthly payments ( the other two months should be put aside for the federal tax) and my impression is that it was up to us whether we paid them or not. We always do because we find it easier that way but OH has colleagues who just pay in one lump sum.
you could try and see what they send you (ref number is AHV-linked anyway)
Anyways for the tax...I have been off of QS for two years now due to special circumstances.
The first thing I did was inform HR, and at around June I was taken off of Quellensteuer. A few months later I received a notice of "new resident of the Gemeinde" which is basically a form the Gemeinde/Kanton use to estimate your tax liability so they can send you a bill. Back then, I had no idea how to fill this out so I went to the tax office in my town just to ask a few questions. Well, they not only answered, they filled out the form with all the tax deductions I didnt even know I was entitled to it. Its all rather complex because the salaries and deductions have to be prorated. I would strongly advise you to get them to do this for you or a tax advisor. It's not easy to do.
A few weeks later, I got a bill for the year which I paid at the end of the year. The following year in March, I filled out the final tax form. I had to pay a small additional amount (300 chf)
In the following years, I never budgeted for the tax. When I get my 13 months salary in November, I use that and a part of my normal salary to pay the gemeinde/kanton tax. My employer also pays our annual bonus the following year in March. Thats when I pay my Bundessteuer and still have enough left over if I need to pay extra for my kanton/gemeinde taxes.
This was explained by the fact my company calculated my Quellensteuer rate as per the kantonal average. Since I was living in Stadt Zürich, that meant I was underpaying vs the Kantonal average.
I have just had my "Staats- und Gemeindesteuern" bill for 2014. This is the first bill since I moved out of Stadt Zurich. What is missing is the note telling me how much interest I would get if I paid in advance.
Does anyone know of a link that tells me this information for all the political Gemeindes of Kanton Zurich? So I can bookmark and reuse. Or should I just e-mail my local Steueramt?
When we changed over to C permits Fribourg canton and our commune automatically sent us the monthly payment slips as well as a yearly one. They still do. I’ve never paid the whole amount in one go as I’d only save about 5-7 francs if I did so not really worth the effort to me.
Richdog you could also ask the Federal tax side to send you some monthly slips too. That helps spread the cost of the Federal lump sum that you get. We get 6 monthly slips which we can pay as and when, they’re not dated like the others.
