Working on the train: tips and tricks

Bullshit. It should be banned!

Basically, the wearing of headphones while driving is allowed. However, if the music is too loud, so that the driver can no longer hear horn signals or the siren of the police or fire department, this endangers the general road safety. It is then an administrative offense, for which according to the current fine catalog a Verwarngeld in the amount of 10 € is due.

It is perfectly possible to listen to audio books or music whilst driving and not wear headphones, I do it all the time and I can still hear everything that is going on around me.

You really do say some idiotic things at times.

You mean to say this while looking in a mirror?

I never wear head pones while driving.

But I do listen to audio books over the car's sound system.

And from time to time I take phone calls without touching my phone.

Can't help it. It's all built in and legal.

My guess is the choice was limited....a bit like something else around here

DB, I realize this isn't ideal but I'm glad you've found a job.

Here's an article about apps that may (or may not) help you get organized while you commute:

Boy, would you just stop, please? My red blob refresh cycle can’t keep up with your idiocy.

You could do a bit of fitness on the train-like jogging from one end to the other a few times

It's ok, i just taken over....

Actually, I am very happy with my current situation. Like I said in my initial post, I quite enjoy commuting: my concern is more to do with using my time on the commute effectively. It feels a bit cheeky to be sitting enjoying podcasts and looking at the countryside while my wife is running round like the proverbial fly back home, then strolling in the front door and demanding more time to do my school prep.

Sure, it would be great if a job opportunity in my line of work opened up in the next village, but that will never happen - and I knew that when we bought our house at the back end of nowhere. One has to make sacrifices to get what they really want in life - and what I want is to wake up to snowy mountains on a Saturday morning. I won't get that living in Dietikon or Winterthur, no matter how convenient it is to get to work from there.

So thank you for your concern, but it is misplaced. I am not seeking sympathy: I'm looking for advice from other people who have been in a similar situation - and I've received it in spades, for which I'm very grateful indeed.

Nice troll attempt, though. At least you're not derailing the threads of innocent newbies for a change.

So, you're saying that the deaf should be banned from driving, as they can't hear sirens?

Tom

The deaf don't choose to be deaf. But those who put on the headphones choose to put others life in danger and their own as well. It's like people walking down the street playing with their handy. Eventually a few find themselves under a tram or a truck.

Well I could understand it if the travelling was part of your work and you got paid for it. Otherwise not.

If your understanding is limited, that is your problem, not mine.

Can i offer you some headphones ?

Or a handy?

Cheepskates! TIS, you offer both.

I already have . Thanks. I don't drive.

Yes. Free. If its the new iPhone!

Further update: getting into the swing of this now. Finding the best spots on ZVV trains. Got Word and Powerpoint on my phone (had no idea that was possible! ). Looking into bluetooth keyboards. I can make this work!

Homeward journeys are less feasible for working, but I'm rediscovering the joys of my eighties playlists and realising that Zurich canton isn't as boring to look at as I thought...

Thanks again for all the great ideas!
