Working On Your Own Car in CH

I'm flattered, thank you. I aim to please.

Jim

Useful thread.

Just yesterday I had to replace a rear light cluster on my car (thanks to the Strasseverk. inspection deciding that an almost invisable hair line crack of about 3cm was enough to fail, costing me another inspection & 180 for the replacement part ).

Even in the 15 mins it took me to do this simple task that required no more than sitting in the boot of the car with the tailgate up with a couple of screwdrivers, I got a number of dirty looks - exclusively from pensioner age ladies, I have to observe - which I found pretty irritating.

Be nice to work in peace in the future.

I think this is a good idea. I did a quick search and it seems there are a few places for rent, prices ranged from CHF 508 (in central Winterthur) to around CHF 1000 in Dübendorf. The catch with both of these places was that they want someone to take over the tool inventory for serious cash.

I think it should be possible to find something at a reasonable price though. Shall we start an interest group for this idea?

Zürich seems to be where it's at. But maybe there will also be interest local to Bern. Anyway, an interest group sounds a good way to start something moving.

my mate is one of the local autospares shops...........

Great. Thanks for the tip.

Where is your mate? I'll go and give him some custom.

what parts do you want for what car ?

he's not really interested in modern stuff.

Nothing specific at the moment, but it would be useful to know where to go. I have a 1997 Audi cabrio and a 1989 Chevrolet Caprice. Do they count as modern?

yes, i'd say that's pretty modern.

another guy i know used to be in this place:

(he paid less than the todays asking price)

i think the owner's been trying to rent it out for 2 or 3 years now.
