No matter what happened and if anyone is at fault, poor poor kiddo and poor family.
RIP little sunshine
11 years later⦠and this is still happening.
What. The. Hell. Is. Wrong. With. Some. People?
From the 20Min, In Kanton SZ, two dogs have died after being left in a car:
So time to roll out the usual hot weather PSA:
Do not, under any circumstances, leave your dog in a car in this weather. Not even for a minute!
And of course it goes without saying, do not leave your child either.
The article linked shows a table of how quickly temps can rise to the point of life threatening. Even relatively mild temps can lead to deaths if parked in the sun.
The advice in the OP as to steps to take if you see a dog left in a car still applies.
BTW, if your car has a Klima system that runs while your car is off, if you donāt want your windows bashed in by a concerned passerby itās a good idea to put a big olā sign on the dash and rear window explaining that. But also be aware that even those systems might not be up to the task of cooling a car left in the sun in this heat.
Poor, poor dogs - what a senseless, horrible death.
Not just dogs sadly. Some woman left her 2 kids in the car in France and they both died.
This. (for babies and children too).
Itās easy to get distracted and worst case, you have a medical emergency and donāt get back to your car.
In this case itās probably safer to leave your dog IN the car rather than outside! ![]()
As the lady-in-waiting of a dog with a substantial undercoat, Iāve been forced to get up at bloody 5.30, walk for 90 mins then return all safe and sound back in the house before itās too hot. Snoozing doggo, sleeping off the lovely walk while Iām having to function for a dayās workā¦
āGet a dogā, they said. āItāll be funā, they saidā¦
Itās not common to have such strong sunlight around here. The air may be cool because of the AC, but the solar radiation can be strong enough to heat up objects inside the car (including dogs).
Try it for yourself, set the AC to max power and stay inside the car for 10 mins without moving.
I think you need to top up your carās a/c refrigerant!
haha. There are practical concerns, AC is not as efficient as when the car moves 50+ kmh even if the AC fan is working at max. level. Then, ~60% of cars in Switzerland are gray or black absorbing solar radiation.
05:30?
Luxury!
Robin Goodfellow wonāt go out after sunrise, so itās 04:30 for us. Little s*d enjoys taking full advantage of my worry about his decreasing mobility, so inevitably at the point when I am huffing and puffing myself heāll decide that he is done, thank you very much, now carry me home. Why is it that a 10kg dog suddenly weighs 30kg when riding on your shoulder?
What makes this heat wave so difficult is that the nights donāt cool down enough to open windows until after 2:30. I have to stay up late to manage the windows, and only get a few hours sleep before itās time to get up for walks.
Another vote for instituting the siesta tradition.
We already haveā¦dark cool room from about 2-6, fan on low for white noise then out to water the garden AGAIN. With these temps, I feel sorry for the Italian crew thatās demolishing a hotel in town.
