Yorkshire Tea in Basel

I'll give a brita filter a go, see if it helps. I really miss that fresh taste!

In the meantime here's a recipe below for a good strong cup of indian chai (if you like strong tea it hits the spot!).

- add water to heavy base saucepan

- throw in good amount of cinnamon bark, few green cardomon pods, few bay leaves and one star anise (optional).

- bring to the boil. Water should start to colour. turn heat down

- add tea bags and continue to simmer slowly for ~2 mins

- add full fat milk, make it up to 50% volume (water / milk).

- simmer for a good 3-5 mins, until you get a rich dark colour

- heat off. strain through a seive

- add sugar to taste

(the quantities of above ingredients according to taste). You know its authentic chai when as it cools it starts forming a skin :-)

Delicious especially with hob nobs or digestives You can swap the milk for condensed sweetened milk for extra fatty thickness.

OMG. Sounds gorgeous.

Coop sell a kilo of Ceylon leaf tea for about 6 chuffs. Has anyone tried it?

Yorkshire tea also sells a version for "hard water" (green instead of red). Not sure if it really makes a difference though. I suppose if you put the water through a Brita filter first it might help, but honestly I can't be bothered.

I've gotten used to the water here but it is pretty rough stuff.

In the Lake Geneva area, the water is very hard. The Britta filter not only makes tea taste great, but it also helps to avoid kidney stones, which are very prevalent in the area.

So went out today and bought a Brita filter... tea tastes much better!

Glad you agree! You will also find that your kettle no longer furs up every 5 minutes either. And no need to buy bottled water.

BTW, I don't have shares in Britta, but I do love a good cuppa!

Okay, you two, you've got me sold. Saw them on sale in Manor Basel yesterday, so will have to hurry on over before all the tea lovers snatch them up!
